Technics SL-7 Turntable Arm not moving - Fixed

Best kept secret of the audiophile world. Technics SL-1200 and it's cousins are excellent sounding decks. 

Recent pickup for $250 - whether you are just getting into audio or been down the rabbit hole for awhile I can’t recommend this line of Technics turntables enough!

 It's not working anymore so I did take a look at it, tried to fix it but even with the service manual it's beyond my capabilities. So we have a new player here and one that was quite high end when it came out originally. So let's take a look. Alright, here it is and as you can see there from the manual it is the Technics SL-7

 Yep no problem at all alright so that's working, we can cue the record and we can scan to a different part of the record, so let's go to track number 4 which I believe was the hit single All She Wants Is, so that should be about it, I'll put the needle back down, no I actually gone past it, it was the track before that, okay now here's an interesting option down here, it has a repeat button, so what that button actually does is it repeats the entire record, so once the record gets to the end it will go back to the beginning and start again so we'll have the repeat button switched on, let's just scan to near the end of the record, alright we're near the end there, put the silence back down, okay so it will go back to the beginning and it should start the record again since the repeat button is pressed in and there you go straight back to the beginning no problems whatsoever, alright so yeah it seems to be working just fine no problems whatsoever, alright let's take a quick close up look at the controls, so as you can see the controls are fairly basic, we have an open button here which obviously opens the turntable drawer, we have the power button, we have the repeat button here and over here we have the cueing button so we can lift the stylus up and down, this is the start and this is the stop, you'll also notice that these also work as the fast forward and rewind or skipping tracks, so for example if we press start you can see the little LEDs did light up there but if we want to skip around the tracks we just hold it down and as you can see the stylus is moving, so if we hold it this side it moves quicker, if we move it this side it moves quicker but if we hold it in the middle it moves slower so that's kind of nice, so again moving back pretty quickly there, now moving slower and speed up again, so it's nice you've got variable controls for the stylus movement, alright I also like the way it's lit up over there so if we take the camera up a little bit you'll see that, let's just get that into focus, so you have a very easy indicator right here to see where about you are on the track, that's all lit up very nicely, okay now let's take a look at some of the other features which are hidden underneath the cover over here, okay so what we have here is the disc size sensor so we have it set to auto but you can actually have it at 17cm which is 7 inch, what's that 25cm which is a 10 inch record or 30cm which is a 12 inch record and what this does is basically decide where it's going to put the stylus down on the record, we just keep it at auto, now the thing is what about the speed of the record, well that's detected down there so let's take a look and this is where the speed of the record player is detected, I just keep it on auto but you can also choose between 33 and 1 3rd or 45 rpm, now keeping it on auto might be a problem when you go to play a 12 inch single because 12 inch singles are going to play at 45 rpm but this machine is definitely going to play at 33 and 1 3rd rpm because that's what an album plays at so when you're playing a 12 inch single just switch it over to 45 rpm, now how does this recognise what type of record you've got on it, how does it know the size, well very simple, so if we take off this record here you can see there are these little slits in the actual mat and underneath those slits are holes in the platter, so if we spin the platter around you'll see that those little slots line up with a couple of LEDs here, see that and that's how it knows what size the record is, so if you put a 7 inch record on it's going to cover up this slot here isn't it, so it knows that the record is 7 inch, 10 inch will cover up that slot and 12 inch will cover up all slots, so it's fairly simple but that's how it knows what size record is on the platter, very simple and easy solution and one thing I do like about this player is it has a little 45 rpm or sorry 7 inch single adapter on there so that's pretty cool, you're never going to lose that because it's always on there, nice. So there we have it that is the Technics SL7 turntable, a very nice turntable and hopefully one that will serve me for many years.

 So let's give it a try with a record I don't care too much about so hopefully if it is going to damage the record it's not going to really bother me too much, this is Duran Duran and it's got a big thing in the album, this is an X demonstration copy as you can see from the copy there, so the copy number. What’s your endgame turntable and why?

I am looking to start a vintage HiFi setup so I started checking local thrift stores first. I got this Technics reciever for $60 do you think it was a good investment?? 

I am still sad somebody beat me to purchase a pair for Celestion Dl8 Series 2 speakers for $50. Hopefully I can find something soon I was thinking maybe a pair of Kef C75's would be great at starting out. Who knew this would be so fun and I'm not even at the listening part yet lol.

My first purchase from a thrift store, $60 how'd I do?

I just got a Technics SL-7 that’s much smaller and pretty nifty. Audiophiles like looking down on them for having a servo based linear tracking, but I’m happy with the sound I’m getting from it without having to do too much work on it! Unfortunately it constricts you to P-mount cartridges, and I’d recommend being a little handy as they may need some TLC once in a while, but it’s pretty easy to do.

Looking to upgrade to something more compact than the 120. Any reccomendations? (More specs of my setup will be posted in comments in a few.)

I have a great turntable I have owned since 1981, it is a Technics SL-7 linear tracking. It is aluminum and very heavy, not prone to skipping from bouncy floors. It is a great choice, but I’m biased.

My husband has lots of records but no current working player.  We have a Denon ARV-S710W receiver.  I don’t care about Bluetooth.  I would like automatic operation but could be talked out of it.  I want three speeds I think but how necessary is it? We have an old house so bouncy floors.  I like the Dual CS 429 but I saw some bad reviews and it’s only two speeds. How important is a curved arm? What else? I’d rather keep it under $800.     Thanks in advance!

I recently purchased some Klipsch R-51M speakers. They are powered by an old Denon PMA-720. It worked really well for a few months but the other day one of the speakers seems to have blown out? It sounds very quiet and crackly. I check connections and ports. I don't play music particularly loud at all so I'm wondering if it's a problem with the amp I was using. Thanks!

I am totally new so please keep that in mind.

Do you have any advice on this combination and also I have one question...

All help is highly appreciated! I just bought a pair of speakers which is the triangle comete Ez and are looking for equipment to pair with them. I would like to be able to: Use them to watch TV, stream music from my phone, connect them to a turntable, as well as connect a pc or laptop to them to play flac files, I'm considering to maybe add other sources as well such as a cassette and reel to reel but it's not exeremly nessecary to connection to those.

As I'm quite new to audio I'm unsure what I need and how it all should be connected. Im looking into buying an amp where I'm in between the Cambridge audio axr100 or the iotavx sa3. In leaning towards the iota because I heard the Cambridge had some fan problems and making a irritating noise. If I go for the iota I can also later down the line get the pa3 to get more power. So an amp I know that you need.

Then for being able to stream music from my phone I thought I would need some kind of streamer. I was looking at the acrylic s50 Pro+.

The thing here is that I don't know these components should be connected. The amp of course first goes to the speakers. Then I would think that the optical port on the amp goes to the TV in order for it to get sound. Then I'm not sure how the acrylic streamer should be connected to the amp, is it via optical as well or? Since the iota only has one optical port doesn't it have enough for two optical outputs. Or can you connect it in another way?

Then how would a pc or laptop connect to these components to play music from that? Do I need some sort of separate dac or?

The turntable I assume I plug into the preouts on the amp if I don't have separate pre amp. But if I would have a separate preamp where would that be connected. Turntable > preamp >?

I'm also thinking of adding a sub later down the line. Would I just connect that to the sub out on the amp and it would work with all the different sources or?

The last thing is the cables that I will need in order to connect them all to each other. I know the speakers have bananaplugs to them, is that the case for the amp as well or? And also what cables do the other compents need in order for them to work with each other? 

As you see Im quite unsure how it all should be connected in order for it to work, if you could it would mean a lot for any help that is possible! 

I live in Europe(Sweden) if product recommendations is relevant.

Hello everyone,
I recently purchased a cassette tape deck. I have a little sound system setup in my living room that is currently just a turntable and some Audioengine speakers. I would like to be able to connect my tape deck and turntable to the same speakers without having to switch out cables every time I want to change inputs. 
I have been researching RCA signal switch boxes online and I have found several options, but I don’t know enough about how these boxes actually work to decide on what to buy. 

There are two brands I see on Amazon (although if someone knows some other one that is good I will definitely look into it): Dingsun and Gohifiaudio.

I recently purchased a cassette tape deck. I have a little sound system setup in my living room that is currently just a turntable and some Audioengine speakers. I would like to be able to connect my tape deck and turntable to the same speakers without having to switch out cables every time I want to change inputs. 
I have been researching RCA signal switch boxes online and I have found several options, but I don’t know enough about how these boxes actually work to decide on what to buy. </p>

<p>There are two brands I see on Amazon (although if someone knows some other one that is good I will definitely look into it): Dingsun and Gohifiaudio. </p>

So I'm interested in upgrading my speakers as a bit of a housewarming gift for myself, and looking at OP I'm eyeing those Kali-LP6s as they aren't *way* too pricey. I've had a pair of Micca MB42Xs for the past few years and those have been fine enough for the living situation I had in the past where I couldn't have them up too high any way, but from what I read they were supposed to be surprisingly good for the price so what I'm wondering is how much of an improvement the Kalis are and if I should be eyeing something else instead (max budget for me is $400-500 for a pair).

**Requesting advice on whether to get better satellite speakers, in a sub-sub-optimal environment and with a sub-optimal setup.**

My garage is my home office/man-cave/pseudo-theater.  I found the **Denon AVR-S540BT** on sale a while back, and then went to my local second-hand/thrift store and picked up five random speakers to serve as my 5, and eventually found a deal on a **Monoprice 12in 150-Watt Powered Subwoofer** for my .1 (no plans currently to install a .2).  I was literally using speakers that had no business being connected to the receiver and so found my way into purchasing a **Klipsch R-25C** for my center speaker and a pair of **Klipsch R-41M**'s for my fronts (again, during a sale).  However, my satellites are still a pair of **Panasonic SB-AK 18**'s ($3 a pop at the secondhand store).  

I know almost nothing about watts, ohms, and how to assess if I've got appropriate parts assembled correctly.  My garage does not have ideal acoustics and I'm a renter, so none of this is hard mounted or even properly arranged.  I've got a wall of speakers where my projector is, so my sound is coming from behind me (my brother, who is much more of an audiophile, tells me this is "wrong" on many levels, which seems a reasonable assessment).  I do not have the space nor configuration nor the echo dampening pads to remedy most of this.  At this point, my audio is acceptable enough (to me) when streaming music, when playing video games, and watching movies, BUT, I'm open to the idea that there are better speakers for my satellites.

IF I were to buy better satellite speakers, what would my evaluation criteria be?  More or less ohm? (Panasonics are 6) More or less wattage?  (Panasonics are 100W).  Again, I know enough to know I don't know much and that's it.

You can probably infer that I'm not going to spend thousands, or even multiple hundreds, but I would be willing to budget up to $200 for the pair (if its a model that's more but occasionally drops below on a sale, I can wait).

My setup right now is the Audio technica AT-LPW40WN turntable and the Triangle Elara LN01A shelf speakers. I wanted to ask what you think about my setup and if it is worth it to buy a separate phono pre amp, since I use the build in right now. Or are there other things I should upgrade first?

I have an Echo Plus that I’ve been using in my basement (unfished) for the last 2 years.

Hey everyone!  I am the "audio guy" between my friends, and one of them has asked me about an easy setup for his new house. I've already something in my mind but I know you can help me to figure out better options.

* **BUDGET**: 
   * Around 1500€ (1700$).
* **WHAT AM I LOOKING FOR**: 
   * I'm looking for a setup for a small living room. It doesn't have a proper acoustic treatment but there is not much reverb in it, even with two pretty big windows ([this](https://imgur.com/a/bnvYJzR) is where speakers would be, I know that's not optimal but it's the only place available in the living room).
   * ***Bookshelf speakers only*** and an optional subwoofer (if speakers lacks of bass). The main objective is to have a fairly diffuse sound in the room, there's not a sweet spot for listening.
   * Both active and passive speakers are welcome. Of course if the choice is on passive speakers an amp suggestion is appreciated (while remaining within the budget).
* **AUDIO CONTENT**: 
   * The main purpose of the system is listening to music. He doesn't care much about films. It should be good for low/mid music volume, I don't think he will crank it up a lot, so there's no need for a huge line array in the living room. 
   * Subwoofer is preferred to get deep bass even on low volume content.
* **CONNECTIVITY**:
   * It can be connected to phone, pc, tv, alexa stuff and (maybe in the future) to a turntable. So I would say bluetooth, aux, optical (not required but hey why not), RCA and other wired sources.

My personal option was the [Klipsch R-51PM](https://www.klipsch.com/products/r-51pm-powered-speakers-blk) with the [Klipsch R100SW](https://www.klipsch.com/products/r-100sw-subwoofer-blk-gnm) subwoofer, what do you think about it? Personally I won't buy active speakers, but I think that might be a practical solution to somebody who's not into this kind of things.

Hi everyone! 

I just purchased a record player and speakers for my significant other for Christmas and am having troubleshooting issues. 
I purchased the One by 1 Wireless turntable HiFi system with 36 watt speakers. 

The left speaker is quieter than the right by a considerable margin. I tried swapping the speakers, keeping the connections the same and that eliminated it being a speaker issue. Then I tried adjusting the anti-skate and the didn’t affect it noticeably. 

I’m not sure what I should be attempting next to check what the issue is? The connection is direct to the turntable with red and black wires to the speakers, with exposed metal that connects. 

Seriously, any guidance or help would be appreciated, I haven’t branched into this before. Thank you so so much!!!

One loud pop when I change songs unexpectedly. If the song ends and another starts there’s no issue, but if I interrupt the song and click next, a painfully loud pop, and then back to the glorious music. Any way to get rid of the pop? Worried about damaging the speakers and my hearing

I just received the JBL 530 bookshelf speakers. The sound quality has blown me away.

I am now looking at adding the 580 towers due to how pleasant these sound.

I would be running stereo 2 channel in front and only for music.

Do I use both channels on the amp at once and run the bookshelves with the towers or only one channel at a time?

Does running both mess up the soundstage/spacing or cause other concerns.
