 In the case of this though, it would be done for inertia, you know, to cure for mass so that the turntable has a heavier mass, therefore stabilizes it when there's vibrations and less prone to that kind of stuff.  These dots did not seem to be accurate strobe marking. So I got out this and to my chagrin, I found out that I was using the outer ring, the 50 Hertz ring, not the inner 60 Hertz ring. I have been reading all the guides on this sub, they have been really helpful! Since I am just starting out I would like to spend as less as possible (without cheapening out).   


I will start with the turntables. I read about automatic vs manual, and want to go with a manual. I also read about built-in preamps vs an external preamps. Help me pick out my setup. New to the vinyl world!

Earlier, I purchased a suitcase type model for my daughter since she started perusing my old collection from back in the 80's. I wanted something a bit better quality for the living room. I was kicking myself for not keeping my old Technics sound system, but who was to know vinyl would make a comeback? I purchased this Victrola model after a good amount of research comparing all the different players around the same price point. This one had some features of more expensive models and a tried and true brand

 You can't swap out or lubricate the cueing lever would it to become damaged or worn. It was rather disappointing to conclude that I could've purchased a dj-ing turntable for the same money and it would've had all the adaptability I needed. The consolation is that I can gift this one to my daughter who is still listening to her vinyl on the suitcase player so for her, it's going to be a huge upgrade.

 The key here was the increased level of tracking ability of the new cartridge. It really is true that the cartridge is what really dictates how your music will sound. It was a real eye-opening experience.  Again, I was happy with the turntable until I realized that now that I had upgraded the cartridge and stylus, I still wanted to play my 78's and I wasn't going to do it with my newer more expensive stylus

I was hoping to just be able to switch out the headshells to keep 2 premounted ones at the ready (one for playing the 78's with the appropriate stylus and cartridge and another one for everything else). When I went to switch the headshell and swap it out for a new one, it was that I realized that the headshell on this Victrola is not changeable

Really Nice Turntable for Beginner Vinyl Enthusiast

 So right now, it looks like it's at about 45 RPM. So we're gonna slow this down until that outer, outer ring goes stationary. Okay, very finicky, but I think, as you can see, that inner ring there looks stationary. So we're going to hope for the best, take this off, put Frank Sinatra back on, and hopefully he sounds like Frank Sinatra and not Mickey Mouse

 Here is the turntable itself. Wow, it's a little bigger than I thought. Look at that, oh it's awesome, I love it. Look at that, I just love this moment when you see it for the first time, you guys

 I love seeing what's out there, regardless of how it turns out, but I don't know what you guys think, but I think that Victrola is onto something here, and I think that given the right circumstances, they can definitely make this a winner. They have so many awesome products out there, so many great things we reviewed, and I'm really looking forward to seeing what else they come up with. But that's it for now, guys. Great Sound Quality But a Challenge to Setup

I'm a very very very new beginner. I've always liked the allure of vinyl and record playing (my mom still plays them) but I've been intimidated to get started with the hobby. ESPECIALLY after falling down the rabbit hole of this subreddit after learning suitcase players are a crime against the medium 😂

And so, I've been trying to figure out the best beginner set up for me. Right now, I don't have a ton of space to dedicate to a set up yet but still want something that won't need to be replaced so soon. I'm not an audiophile but can still recognize that the suitcase players are tinny at best.

Here were the set up options I was thinking about, would love feedback and any other recommendations in similar price points if I've missed something! Also if I'm missing something in my set up to make the connections work from turntable to speaker (some models I'm mentioning have a pre-amp, some don't)

Not interested in purchasing vintage right now, would prefer something with a warranty.

 So, basically this explains why turntables sold in Europe work with the strobe at 33 and 45, and the units sold in 60hz markets such as the U.S.A. only show a lock at the 45 speed only

. Victrola appears to be discontinuing this turntable. It is being discounted currently on Amazon at under $70.00

 The Cue Lift Guide, is not rubberized on the top, So it allows the tone arm to drift about. I set my anti-skat at just about zero for best results. BlueTooth is a bit hit and miss, but with patience, I did get it to work on both my Crosley and Klipsch Bluetooth speakers. For me, these minor problems, are not a deal breaker, as it plays my vinyl records just fine

 Purchase only from a seller who offers free returns. When your turntable arrives, read the instructions carefully, to set it up properly. Test thoroughly to confirm that it operates properly.
