Yamaha HS8

For around $240 each you will get a nice studio monitor that will help you to get better results and especially if you compare the HS8 to other speake...

Okay, so that is pretty much my review of my Yamaha HS8. It's a pair of studio monitors that I've been using for the last 3 years for music production...

And these don't do any of that. They don't do any of my check boxes that I like. I will dislike this speaker if it doesn't hit any of them

Dollar for dollar, you're probably not going to find a better monitor than the HS8 for the price. They would probably be my choice at that price point. If you're willing to look for a used set and/or stretch your budget you can starting getting into things like the Dynaudio BM6, Focal Alpha 80, etc., but then we're hovering around $1K.

* yamaha hs8. I personally love the hs8 (and the old hs80m) but I would NOT recommend the hs5 without a subwoofer - the bass is really quiet in comparison to the present mids and highs.

At first, she was using computer loudspeakers because "hey, I cannot hear so why bother", but she would not have a good experience. With good loudspeakers, she was able to actually enjoy music more, and although some random frequencies makes her scream (especially in the 10-15KHz - yes that high), now, she has way more control over what she hears, and she can listen to music at higher volume without feeling fatigue or having her ears hurting. So my proposal: actually decent bookshelf that have a wide neutral range for playback. Think about mastering monitors, such as Yamaha HS5 (small so YMMV) to HS8.

So in this regard, it doesn't make much sense to use them in a poorly treated room. With the money you need to get these, you could easily get some decent acoustic treatment instead, that would allow you to get a better monitoring with your HS8 than with any of these monitors in an untreated room.
