With Phobya Nanograse Extreme (slightly better than Kryonaut), thermals were tamed a bit better. CPU spiked into the mid-80s at most, and GPU would hover around 70C.

Stock paste job was very reasonable. Good die coverage, not too much applied. The contact between the heatsink and CPU/GPU die was almost perfect. I was incredibly impressed at its levelness!

Trackpad was meh. Wish it was glass and moved slightly over to the right, but it feels sturdy and rigid.

Battery life with 60Hz at 60% brightness on Hybrid mode was showing around 7 hours with light browsing and music playing in the background and Slack. Expect 5.5 to 7.5 hours depending on how aggressive or conservative you are with use

 With that in mind, the 12 hours of runtime is good, giving you plenty of hours off the charger. Some of the alternatives definitely last longer, particularly the MacBook Pro, and I have to point out that the others aren't exactly slouches in the resolution department. Overall, the XPS 15 may not be the longest-lasting option, but it&rsquo;s comfortably in the usable range.

3DMark measures relative graphics muscle by rendering sequences of highly detailed, gaming-style 3D graphics that emphasize particles and lighting. We run two different 3DMark subtests, Sky Diver and Fire Strike, which are suited to different types of systems. Both are DirectX 11 benchmarks, but Sky Diver is more suited to midrange PCs while Fire Strike is more demanding and made for high-end PCs to strut their stuff. The results are proprietary scores

This year's configuration is less expensive, though, so in that regard, the XPS 15 and its new-gen processor hold up well, even compared to the Core i9 systems. The PCMark 10 result demonstrates that the XPS 15 can power through everyday tasks (you'd expect no less from a laptop at this price), while the media tests show it's capable for photo and video editing, though not to be confused with one of Dell's Precision workstations. I wouldn't classify it as a specialist media editing machine as the Apple and Gigabyte are, but it's about as close as you can get for a general-use laptop.&nbsp;

The XPS 15 performed well in all of these tests, as you'd expect from an expensive laptop with a current-generation Core i7 processor. You may notice the previous XPS 15 posts superior numbers, but it's important to note that our particular configuration of that laptop was kitted out to the max with a Core i9 chip, which the MacBook Pro also possesses. The Apple laptop is excluded from the Windows-based tests, but generally, the Core i9 is a superior performer, as expected.&nbsp;

 That laptop for a similar spec is much heavier at 5.5 pounds and the chassis will not fit into a 15-inch laptop sleeve. Anyway, back to the 15. it feels quite dense to hold due to its size to weight ratio

 I Found this laptops processor only draws five more to 25 watts of power, so this should have worked and would have been handy. It does charge off the MacBook Pro 16 s 96 watt charger though. Battery life for light usage like browsing the web and writing the script what's around 7 hours with a screened-in by three notches on this models 86 watt hour battery which is pretty good I'd assume you could get more with a low resolution screen if you dim the brightness more than I Did I had no blue screens or crashes during my time with this laptop. However, I did have one complete lockup when I plugged in a fairly standard anchor USB C to Ethernet adapter I had to hold down the power button for a long time to force a restart

 This last one viewers have told me is caused by the HDR setting that you can turn off, but it really shouldn't happen to begin with. Overall though, I personally found these issues occurred less on my 15-inch XPS the 13 but moral of the story is this: there are risks associated with purchasing this laptop so I would only buy it from a seller where you have a no-hassle 30-day return period. So you can probably try the laptop to ensure you don't have the faulty trackpad and you can handle the other issues. Dell XPS 15 (9500) Review - Everything YOU Need To Know!!

 It comes with Windows 10 Pro, and while there is some bloatware, I was able to remove most of it, including McAfee, without issue.  Battery life is okay. In real world use, that is with screen brightness at about 65%, and performance set to "better battery" I get between 3 and 5 hours of use. Doing anything that taxes the laptop can drop that to 2 hours

 Dell has the large part down, but the touchpad has a weird double click issue, it wobbles, and sometimes it gets stuck in a weird mode where I can't scroll without the cursor zipping all over the screen, and every attempt to touch the pad results in the equivalent of a right click.  Less than 48 hours after the laptop arrived the sound died, and I got a red X next to the speaker icon on the task bar. Having spent 20+ years in IT, I thought I would be able to fix it with drivers. After a day of attempting to fix the issue that included restoring the laptop to factory via a fresh Windows 10 reinstall, it still wouldn't work

 You can have the best hardware specs in the world, but if the computer doesn't work, what's the point in purchasing it?  I'll update the review once it's been serviced and I've had a chance to give it a few weeks of real-world use. For now, I recommend looking elsewhere for a laptop. Frankly, the Acer 2 in 1 I've been using for the last 5 weeks is half the price of this laptop, works wonderfully, and I can do 8 hours of work without a single issue.

 Provided it doesn't start breaking the day after you take it out of the box.  UPDATE: September 12, 2020 - Over a month after receiving the XPS 9500, this laptop still is not working correctly. Since having the sound daughterboard, and then the entire motherboard and the upper deck to fix a touchpad wobble problem, the bluetooth does not work, and the wireless is so weak I have to be a few feet from a wireless router. The last tech said that the antenna was probably damaged when the first tech worked on the laptop

EDIT: This laptop is so prone to overheating that it has to be shut off at night. Otherwise the fan kicks in so loudly that it wakes my daughter up!  I got this laptop for my daughter, who was long overdue for a new one. She primarily uses a computer to watch Netflix, make YouTube videos, and do the usual things like Facebook and email. Her previous laptop was a monstrously huge “laptop” that was designed to sit on a desk, so her first observation was that the screen is smaller

 It's the one I'm used to.  I can tell that the graphics are excellent. The sound quality is excellent.  The box was not banged up

 But of course her new laptop is superior in nearly every other way. Here are her observations some of which were in response to my pointed questions based on other reviewers' experiences:  I do not like the track pad. It's annoying, and it doesn't always work right. It's too big

Dear Windows laptop manufacturer, please step up your game and offer something great for the consumers. Otherwise, I'm going to the dark side and I would put up with the magic keyboard and high price for something reliable and powerful.

Most reviewers have not mentioned as of these issues that I've mentioned. This is clearly not an isolated issue. I paid 2799 SGD for this "premium product". (Beside the wobbly trackpad)   

 While my trackpad were useable, the issue started appearing after the first 30 days. The trackpad were mostly solid but sometimes it would become slightly uneven until I firmly push down the top half of the palmrest and aluminium casing together. It comes and goes. 

 But if you want the proper Xps 15 with the graphics card, then in the Uk, you're gonna have to pay at least sixteen hundred pounds or in the Us seventeen hundred and fifty dollars. Which is quite a lot considering you still get the same 8 gigs of ram and 256 storage and full Hd screen as the base model. I mean, you can get the Razer Blade 15 with a faster graphics card and double the ram for similar money, but the one I have here with the 4k screen, the graphics card, 16 gigs of ram, and actually one terabyte of storage. Although the similar Skew model in the Us has 512 storage, it's really annoying

 And as for the question which I know you guys have watched all the way through just for me to answer of whether I'm twitching. Well, I'm going to be annoying and say I actually don't know yet because I want to test out the Xps 17, see how much better that is in terms of performance and cooling, and also to see if a 17 inch laptop is still portable enough that I can use it when I'm going on my travels. So I'm going to hold off judgment until then. And also I want to do a proper comparison video with my Macbook Pro 16 and the Xps 15 and also Problem 17 to see which is best

. As usual though, if battery life is important to you, then save 300 and go for the full Hd Plus model. It will get you probably between 10 and 12 hours. So with all that said, should you buy the new Xps 15

 So with that said, I'd love to see a version of the Xps 15 with a new Amd Ryzen 4 000 series chip. I think that could be really interesting, but I also can't wait to see how this compares with the Xps 17 with its fancy vapor chamber cooling. But what about battery life? Because presumably to fit in this new form factor, Dell's actually reduced the size of the battery from 97 watt hours down to 86 watt hours, which is a bit disappointing, especially as for example, the Macbook Pro 16 manages to pack in a massive 99.9 watt hour battery

This Dell XPS 15 9500 laptop is a solid computer for both work and play, but a few things keep it from being a 5 star computer for me for the price.  The specs are powerful for sure: Intel i7 processor, 16 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD drive, and I think it carry me through the 3 to 5 years minimum that I expect from a laptop these days. More irritating is how this keyboard doesn't have dedicated PgDn or PgUp keys and you have to use Function + the Up or Down arrows. I've made myself adapt to the loss, but normal PgUp and PgDn keys are available on laptops with smaller screens/dimensions, so this is not my prefernce

 The Gpu is running right within Nvidia specs at under 80 degrees, so there's nothing to worry about here. So how does that translate into actual gaming results? Well, uh, the Xbox 15 might be sitting at the bottom of the charts, but in a few cases, it actually comes within five to seven percent of the Bravo 15 from Msi with an Rx 5500m. So basically, I classified this as a good fit for medium level gaming. Don't expect ultra details, but if you turn down the settings a bit, you'll get playable frame rates in almost any game at 1080p or the Xps 15's native resolution of 1920x1200

 And so when I switched over to the Xps 15, I almost wondered, like is this thing a productivity device or gaming notebook? Or an ultra portable laptop? Like it could be all of those things, but it also could be none of them at all. Dell has focused really hard on reducing noise to make the Xps 15 really easy to live with, so that means they're gonna be some performance sacrifices. But does that make it the perfect all-around notebook? or does the jack of all Trades approach also make it a master of none? Well, it's pretty expensive, so Dell needs to get a lot of things right, but I do have some concerns as well, so let's talk about that. As for the 1650 Ti, well, for the first 30 seconds, I was a bit worried with those high temperatures. but like we saw in the last test, that's the time it takes for the fans to actually realize that they need to turn on. I really think Dell needs to change this

I mean, look, I'm testing it in the highest performance mode and it would be so much better if the fan algorithm was load-based instead of it being so slow to respond that way. Temperatures could be managed before they get high, and maybe clock speeds won't fall off a cliff for a few seconds once things finally stabilize
