I wouldn’t shy away from buying the new XPS 15, because my personal machine has been a solid workhorse ever since the initial repairs, but I wouldn’t personally pay $2,500+ for the configuration I tested. I’d wait for a sale and maybe spend $1,500 for a Core i7 with a 1080p screen, the Nvidia chip, 16GB of RAM, 512GB of storage, and two years of premium warranty. That’s the sale price for that config (with coupon code) at the time I wrote this review.

But before I buy my next Dell XPS 15, I want to see this aging design replaced with a new one. Not a thinner laptop or one with fewer full-size ports, as manufacturers typically tend to do — those are fine as they are. But I wouldn’t mind a lighter laptop, one that boots faster, with a second Thunderbolt 3 port on the other side of the laptop for charging, and a thermal design that can actually keep a Core i9 and game-capable GPU cool. Maybe a carbon-fiber-coated magnesium alloy frame for less heft? I’d gladly take an RTX 2060-class chip as well

But if you’re looking to buy one, I’d advise investing in a beefed-up warranty and skipping its most potent parts.

I’m seeing similar stories of quality control issues with this new XPS 15 as well, and the handful of issues I’m experiencing with my own review units makes me think they might be true — like how the fingerprint reader on one of my units, but not the other, doesn’t show up in Windows.

OLED and Core i9 come with compromises 

 So underneath a laptop gets crazy hot, like you couldn't even touch it. For more than a few seconds kind of hot, I bought this mainly for video editing and when a five-minute 4k video that took 6 minutes 24 seconds to export on last year's model with an i7 takes 8 and a half minutes on the new 9th gen one. Well, to be honest, I feel like I've wasted my money and that's not even the worst of it. Sometimes the export time will go from 5 minutes

 But this is firstly for prosumers. The feather the often I 9 option clearly is sort of aimed at those who are doing more intensive tasks, and so then, if it just throttles after 5 minutes anyway, then yeah unless you're happy to undervolt. It stay clearly online go for the i7. The good news, though, is the graphics card is a nice step up

 It also gets the Dell premiere color app pre-installed, which lets you change color profile, which, for some reason you just can't get on the OLED model, and it's also a touchscreen. So you basically have to ask yourself two questions. Number one is battery life more important to you than the screen or having a really high res screen. If it is, then you should go for the matte full HD version, because you get roughly twice the battery, but I think most people actually should go for the 4k

 Well, to be honest, I feel like I've wasted my money and that's not even the worst of it. Sometimes the export time will go from 5 minutes. 6 minutes 10 minutes 30 minutes are poor not as if throttles performance, to stay cool. Now, to be fair, you can always undervolt the processor yourself, although I wouldn't recommend us for most people unless you're quite techy and know what you're doing, because you can damage the laptop but either using Intel software or throttle stop, which is the one I use

Screen quality is awful with glow all around the edges and is a long, long way from where it should be for a premium laptop. Sound is very ordinary with poor treble and lack of clarity. Trackpad is just awful. I've played with the settings over several days and just cant get a setting that works well

 This is a terrible laptop for the money and I wish I had never bought it. No more Dells in my future. If Dell is offering refunds I will take it.

3. I have not completely tested the battery life but I think it will last for like 4 hours doing regular stuff like web browsing. It lasted around 3 hours watching a full HD movie so . 

All in all, I am returning this laptop. Here is the summary of my experience with the laptop and the reason behind returning it:

 . .. I really gave it a chance but I just cannot convince myself that I bought a "PREMIUM" laptop that is not premium at all

 What really bothers me is the fact that I know most laptops eventually start struggling with heat and performance after a few years but facing these issues from day one?! No, thank you. I know heat management and battery life issues are mostly due to Intel's horrible 11th gen but as a consumer, I don't care who made the mistake. What matters is that this laptop is not what it claims to be. I think I have to wait for laptops with Intel 12th gen CPUs and hope that they do not have these problems

 That would be nice, although you probably lose Thunderbolt as a result. And also, while I haven't had any quality control issues with this, I've not had a single problem and I did buy this myself. It's not a fancy review sample that they've chosen for me. Obviously, Dells have famously had some Qc issues in the past, so we'll have to see if you do balance for yourself and have any issues

 and as you can see with this gloriously thin bezel and even though this is pretty much identical in terms of design to last year's version although it has lost just a little bit of weight although you wouldn't really notice, I still think this is one of the best, most futuristic looking laptops you can buy. and next to something like the Macbook Pro 16, which is in need of a refresh. Uh, for sure. and I think we might be getting one with a very fancy M1x or M2 chip maybe in September so that we want to look out for

 Also, it's a bit of a shame we have to compromise with the 3.5 k res on the Oled model. Uh, it would be the best of both worlds if we had proper 4k, but it's not really a big deal. I guess it would also maybe have been nice to have an Amd 5000 series option for this, although of course Intel's new 45 watt series Cpus do directly go up against it

 Uh, for sure. and I think we might be getting one with a very fancy M1x or M2 chip maybe in September so that we want to look out for. but next to this, they're both lovely laptops. But this looks properly good

Dell XPS 15 9510 Review - Big RTX 3050 Ti & OLED Upgrade!

The competition is very strong in the price range of 2500 Euros and there are much more powerful gaming laptops like the&nbsp;Gigabyte Aero 15, which is also equipped with an OLED screen. If you prefer a better keyboard and want more ports, you should have a look at the&nbsp;Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme, which will also get an update very soon. Apple’s&nbsp;MacBook Pro 16&nbsp;is also a strong rival, but we expect a major refresh soon, so we would not recommend the current model with old processors for the full price anymore.

Verdict - XPS 15 still has some software bugs

This laptop replaces my 6 year old xps 15 laptop. Everything happens very quickly, the keyboard is very smooth and the display is great. Very happy.

The Enter key is SO soft and mushy and I've noticed many of the keys, like the pair of Space bars, are also soft and don't register contact multiple times. VERY frustrating as I can type around 50 wpm and I'm having to Backspace WAY too much! GRR!. I want to send this POS back and try another brand, but I've found no other alternatives in my searches.

 It might be marginally but use it for a couple hours and it's going to need a charge. I wouldn't recommend this for students. Having 2 classes in row will mean you're looking to sit near a plug in class to keep it charged. You can dim the screen down but that's not always possible when you're in a bright classroom
