1. For someone who's fingers are strained by a 45g Topre and who absolutely loves MX Blues (for typing), would you suggest I compromise by going to MX Brown (for both typing and gaming) or buy two separate boards, one for gaming and one for work?

 I've read some of the minor (fixable) quality concerns with the Drop keyboards. I figured if I buy from Amazon and do not feel like fixing those problems, I could always return it. I saw the Space65 on a post somewhere but was unable to find it anywhere aside from eBay (for $1000 and in a color scheme that I did not appreciate). With the ALT, I'm also not sure what switch to get

I just got a new job as a developer, but the keyboard supplied by the office really sucks.

So naturally, I want to replace it with a mechanical keyboard. I am placed in an officewith two other guys, and I would like to avoid annoying them while maximizing my own typing satisfaction.

A few years back when I was a gamer, I had a ZOWIE Celeritas I with Cherry MX browns,which I really liked. It was my first and only mechanical keyboard.

Typing will be the focus of this keyboard, and I really want to make it as silent as possible. Lubing seems like it is the best weapon against noise. But if I buy a premade keyboard(like the Varmilo VA88M with Cherry MX Silent Reds) I would have to solder/desolder the switches in order to apply the lube, right?

I really don't want to solder stuff. So I guess another option is buy a hotswappable keyboard, something like the Drop CTRL Barebones TKL model. If I buy this guy, do I 'just' get my switches, apply the lube and plug them in along with some keycaps? Or is it more convoluted than that?

Also, is it possible to combine O-rings with lubing?

Is it enough to with Silent Reds and O-rings to be quiet enough for office use?

In addition, I need a nordic layout. What should I be aware in this context when shopping for a mechanical keybaord?

Before I say anything, I'd like to point out that I don't have any soldering skills. I'm not saying I'm incapable, but I would just *prefer* to not build my own if I could avoid it.

Onto the good stuff now. I am looking for a new keyboard. I've been around the block a few times, but I wouldn't say I've been around the world. My first ever mechanical keyboard was a Topre 103UB 55g, followed by an 87U variable, followed by an 87U EK Edition (45g), followed by an HHKB2, and currently on a gifted Das Keyboard that looks like it could be 15 years old. As you can see, I started on Topre and never really dabbled in anything else for a while until the Das. The Das has blue switches, and ever since typing on them, I've fallen head over heels in love with them. Not only do I absolutely love the sound and feel of the blues, going back to the Topres makes my fingers tired.

I know there are countless posts on all different types of keyboards and switches, but everyone is different. I work from home, but I also game from home (as opposed to game from the office?) and originally I was considering getting two separate keyboards, one for gaming (brown? red?) and one for work (blue!). Brown seems to be the best "all around" Cherry switch, but should I really compromise and settle for something "in between?"

I love the build quality of the Topre keyboards. The nice, heavy base combined with PBT plastic and dye-sublimated keycaps feels and looks wonderful, and the lack of that is probably the biggest complaint I have with the Das. For that reason, at the moment I have singled out the Drop ALT as my potential replacement keyboard. While I do not currently have a budget, I am looking for something reasonably priced with excellent build quality. I've read some of the minor (fixable) quality concerns with the Drop keyboards. I figured if I buy from Amazon and do not feel like fixing those problems, I could always return it. The question is about those black and orange stabilizers that are circled. They have been becoming somewhat loose. It's not the orange part but the black part wobbling. Best way to make them firm as new?

Having issues trying to connect GK6X software to my keyboard (GK64XS-RGB Wired - Not Bluetooth) - says "Not Support Device." I've tried it on both my PC and Macbook; I've installed/uninstalled different versions; restarted my computer a few times; I've tried the GUI download but haven't been able to figure that one out either. Otherwise it's plugged in properly, computer settings says it's connected/RGB works fine - just won't connect properly when trying to program it :(

The old switch spiel—looking for your experiences

So the general question is: MX red or brown?

I know, I know; preference. And I know, I know, Cherries are overhyped. So some context. (Tl;dr at the bottom.)

First, I just want to up my keyboard game a little bit. I found one that I like and it can have blue, red and brown switches.

Blues are out from the start bc of noise. I don’t need that click. 

I have been typing and gaming heavily for the past ten years on membrane keyboards, mostly laptops. Now it’s basically just typing. But I’m also playing with the thought of starting gaming again.

First I went with reds, but was unsure bc of the general recommendation towards browns for typing and general use. So I tested some browns, and now I’m _really_ not sure. Coming from membrane keyboards (bottoming down), the difference doesn’t feel that big right now (browns as dirty reds etc.).

I also like the reds from a philosophical standpoint, there is no feedback, a click is a click, everything you do has a consequence so you have to be conscious and careful about what you do, etc. I could see mastering reds as some kind of challenge.

Then again I’m pretty basic and really like the allrounder appeal of the browns. And they do feel slightly better for typing from my first little tests. 

So, I just wanted to hear some experiences from you. Did you come from membrane? And which switch did you like more? Which one for typing, which one for general use, which one for gaming? Am I overlooking something? Does it really matter or is it all just habit and practice?

I am pondering whether to get a Planck EZ, or a regular Planck DIY kit as my first ortho keyboard. The main decision factor right now would be the backlights of the EZ. 

When you started out with octo/40%/custom key maps, did you feel that the backlights helped you getting started in a significantly faster way? I am only interested in using them for functional reasons, e.g. give me markers/guides where the several types of braces are, etc., especially on the lesser used layers/keys. 

Did you have the same thought process at the beginning, and did it work out? Or did you find that you don't actually use the LEDs as much as you thought?

<div class="md"><p>I am pondering whether to get a Planck EZ, or a regular Planck DIY kit as my first ortho keyboard. The main decision factor right now would be the backlights of the EZ. </p>

<p>When you started out with octo/40%/custom key maps, did you feel that the backlights helped you getting started in a significantly faster way? I am only interested in using them for functional reasons, e.g. give me markers/guides where the several types of braces are, etc., especially on the lesser used layers/keys. </p>

<p>Did you have the same thought process at the beginning, and did it work out? Or did you find that you don&#39;t actually use the LEDs as much as you thought?</p>

Hi, I've browsed the wiki, tons of useful stuff, but I didn't come across something I'm specifically looking for.

I play with WASD mostly (Warframe, ARPG) and my fingers often get very sweaty and the keys start to become slippery. Is the solution simply getting some PBT caps, or is there more to it?

I have the Daskeyboard 4 Ultimate with MX Brown switches.

My friend recently gave me a Razer blackwidow x te no chroma keyboard and I found out that the keycaps have plastic overflow is this normal? And also all the clicks sound different like some are higher pitch some are lower pitch it’s really weird and the sound I hear is different from the sound I hear in vids anyone got an explanation?

Hi,

I'm new to this subreddit and Mechanical Keyboard stuff and like to ask a few stuffs:

1. I really like tactile switches and currently I have a Rk61 Brown switches which brand I have no idea if anyone know what switches rk61 uses that would be nice.

2. I've heard that Zealios V2, Glorious Pandas and Holy Pandas are one of the best tactile switches out there, and I'm looking for very tactile switches because the browns I currently have are just not tactile enough for me any suggestions?

3. I also plan to lube and film switches the one I currently have, and in the future when I change them what type of Krytox lube should I use I've seen people using different of lube for Tactiles, which lube should I use for Tactile switches?

P.S. I'm slowly falling down the rabbit hole I need more knowledge before I fully fall.

What paint to use to colour keycaps?

Hi All I have been looking for some blank low profile cherry stem keycaps for my Keychron K3, and cannot find any, so I think instead I want to try dyeing/painting the keycaps that came with it. What is the best method to turn an ordinary keycap into a blank one, thinking of just using some black spray paint, but anyone got better ideas?

The keyboard should have a quick and easy hotkey to shift between devices.

Hey guys, I was looking for keyboards like Keychron because of how simple and clean they look plus the RGB keycaps and switchability from Bluetooth to wired. Keychron doesn't have stock in the country I live in(India) so I was looking for alternatives.

I started (perhaps foolishly) building my first keyboard (1UP Sweet 16, Elite C pro controller, Zealio v2 78g) 

I'm pretty sure my solder job was shoddy (especially with one diode, and ad couple of the controller pins) but I've flashed it & 4 out of 16 keys work. Any ideas on what exactly I should look at to troubleshoot? Most of the joints for the switches themselves look alright.

Hey everyone,

So I finally bought my first keyboard. I ended up getting the  DZ60RGB V2 PCB. When i was testing out the PCB using VIA i somehow managed to accidentally rebind the right shift key that changes depending on how long you press/hold. 

Anyways, I've tried using the QMK keycode "RSFT_T(KC_SLSH)", but that doesn't seem to do anything. When I apply it, it doesn't bind anything to it. What is it that I'm missing here?

hello guys, any recommendation on an 1800 compact keyboard good for gaming and productivity? and which has a good amount of keycaps selections. preferably black/dark grey chasse.

Hello guys, just need some recommendations on what switches to get. I'm currently using Gateron Milky Yellow switches on a Rakk Lam Ang Pro Barebones board. I'm loving it so far. I've always used linear switches in the past and I have experience with Cherry Reds and Gateron Reds.

 I was wondering if there are switches that are tactile but have the same actuation force as Gateron Yellows? Some people have suggested I go for Cherry Browns, but when I tried them they feel a little hard for me to press down.

Some people have suggested that I go for Kailh Speed Coppers, but I wanted to get some feedback here before I go ahead and order them online.

Would the Ducky One 2 RGB be a good replacement for my K70 mk.1? I spilled something on my K70 and the RGB is defect for some keys and it's really, really annoying me. 

Also I want to get away from the MX Speed, since they're so sensitive. Maybe browns or blues.

Can I use the RGB software on the Ducky to highlight keys per program? If not, is there a good keyboard that can do this for me (similar to the iCue software form corsair).

Any help is greatly appreciated.
