Dyson cordless vacuums are a bit spendy, but deliver best-in-class performance that tends to match their steep price. In testing, for example, CNET's Brian Bennett found that the V11 "demonstrated near-flawless pickup of both sand and black rice test samples," and that pet owners will love the vacuum's ability to remove hair fibers from carpeting.

We wanted to know if the appliance would break if you accidentally vacuum over a bobby pin or a coin. The v6 wasn't able to complete the testing because the nuts kept jamming the roller brush. Of the 25 bobby pins in the total weight, this Dyson collected only three into its bin. That said, even with the brush jam, the vacuum didn't break

I opted for the Dyson V11 Animal, but I’m sure there are other cheaper models that are similarly effective. Before this, I had a really clunky corded stand up vacuum. It cleaned just fine, but it was so heavy and clunky that it was difficult to get the stairs and it was just generally a pain to lug it from room to room.

All in all, we would sum up our experience as follows: 1) Dyson has done a splendid job of marketing their product as the perfect vacuum. 2) This product is almost totally unusable for day-to-day, real life vacuuming purposes. 3) For $350, we were sold a bill of goods that this item cannot deliver. Buyer beware! Unless you live a perfectly clean life, have ample time to vacuum your place 2-3 times a week, and only have a small pet, this vacuum is a waste of your hard earned $$

1, the switch why can it be held in or be a lockable switch? try to do some cleaning where you might use a flexible hose and the crevice tool? you have to keep one hand on the switch and try to stretch your other arm way way back behind say a desk or other object to try to get into places.. So you can only get as far as your 2 arms can reach while holding the power switch down. 2 This unit is way off balance I have lambert eaton syndrome and this puts the full weight right on my wrist

This is tricky, as it means I may be halfway through a cleanup job when the vacuum dies and I must wait 40 minutes to recharge.

I feel like it takes me 3 hours to resolve these each time and it is never easy. Suction drops and I basically have to use stop my cleaning and wash out the filter and wait for it to dry in two days . I feel like I'm at the point where I can't clean my house in a single session without cleaning my filter. I already dislike cleaning and I almost feel like I have PTSD with vacuuming because it never goes well so I put it off as long as possible and by then it's pretty bad which compounds everything

For some reason all of the dust goes directly into the filter. Some goes into the main container. Shake and tap the filter out and it still has issues with suction. Something is wrong as I would not think having to rinse and clean the filter daily is indicated? It requires 24 hrs to dry so what do you use in the meantime? I am going to check and see if I am still within the return date

It's easy to remove the parts inside the vacuum head, but you'll have to find and snake a wire and bend it up into the neck to clear out gunk that gets trapped. It's just frustrating because every other area of the vacuum comes apart easily, but this neck area is where the blockages happen. Once cleared, it is always good as new though!

When emptying the bin, I just shake the dust and hair off the sponge. The exhaust filter which is behind the main unit handle was never even a little bit dusty or dirty, which means that the main fine dust filter does its job well. All the filters and the bin are washable, supposedly once in a month but I already did it twice because I like it clean. The whole stream of exhaust air goes around the battery and PCB unit and keeps it cooled

I would definitely recommend getting at least one extra filter, though - ideally two. They fill up quickly, long before the battery runs out, so I can just change filters and keep going easily.

I was looking at a Dyson V11 Absolute because its easy to clean, and wireless. And also the V11 is on sale for $699 CAD right now.

In short - cleaning up the cat fur is no longer a mental chore that I have to psych myself up for. Seriously..

At least you don't have to purchase bags. The dust filter seems to get dirty very quickly (I have a dusty old house with two pets, so your mileage may vary). This is a good thing and a bad thing. On the one hand, it's tedious to have to clean the filter so often (like after every full-home vacuuming)

Emptying the canister is easy, as is getting the clogs out of the floor attachment, but you have to dry the prefilter after washing it. The problem is if you try to use the filter damp the machine gives you the signal it is full or the filter is clogged. I learned this the hard way. The night before having guests over I washed the prefilter

If I give it a couple hours to a day, it runs again, but honestly disappointed in the lack of quality and design thoughts on this. Overall, this doesn't work any better than a less expensive vacuum, for less than 2 years of use.

The canister is tiny and would fill up in literally less than 2 minutes as I made my first couple of passes through my house. I have about 1000 sq feet of carpet and I had to empty the thing out multiple times per room. The design on the canister is also annoying, because hair doesn't just come out when you open it so you have to stick your fingers inside to knock things loose and there are a few spots that are just unreachable. Additionally, the battery died before I was able to finish the whole thing, and it cannot be used while plugged in
