Gregory Paragon 68 Pack - Men's vs Osprey Atmos AG 65

(I) The side zipper is not useful to me (and is hard to operate when the pack is full) and is therefore extra weight and expense. But I understand that we all use packs differently; I assume many folks use this zipper.

Used bag one trip! Loved it packed for second trip the following weekend and the outside zipper popped off! Osprey says online 10-12 weeks hoping when I come back from this weekend trip it will be less then that! Will redo this review after dealing with Customer service

The shoulder straps need more padding. They rubbed the skin off my shoulders in the front. The zippers on the hip belts require two hands to zip closed. It's not a big deal but you have to hold the back portion to zip the pocket closed

You'll be more comfortable and all your stuff will remain dry. The plus side is that this was a very comfortable pack to wear when dry and my shoulders never became too sore over the course of the day. It was easy to control comfort by alternately tightening and loosening the waist belt so that the hips take more or less of the load.

and it also has trekking pole attachments so you can hike around in terrible conditions and stow these babies away when you don't need Oh you.

Just the right size, carries just the right amount of stuff, and fits like it's meant to be carried all day. Great design details throughout that make it easier to pack, carry, and unpack. Nicely done.

My dad went the opposite direction - he started out with an "ultralight" pack (Osprey Exos 38 IIRC) and eventually went with an Atmos 65. He just carried too much stuff for an ultralight pack. He didn't care much for high daily mileage, the walking part of backpacking is a necessary evil in his mind to get to the backcountry camps for fishing and generally relaxing. Trying to stuff all of his junk into a smaller pack with limited support wasn't much fun, so he got a bigger pack and he enjoys backpacking much more
