 They are fairly comfortable with my big head, don't make my ears hot and don't leak sound.

I was looking for something that was comfortable with no sound leakage that I could drive directly from a laptop and not need an amp. The main purpose was just to listen to speaking videos with the above requirements. However, after reading the reviews it sounded like they would be good for music as well with an amp - which I do have (Mojo). So, unless I was wanting to listen to true audiophile music, I thought maybe this would save me from having to switch back and forth between headphones when I took a break from speaking videos to listen to some music At least that Is what I had hoped

 But for music, if I have to spend more to make it sound good enough for my preference that is what I will do. One positive for music with the DT770 is the vocals don't sound recessed like they can be on the Meze 99 Classics, but neither do they on my TP5. Unfortunately for music, the DT 770 just doesn't cut it for me.  For music, I will still have to use the Meze 99 Classics when I am in the mood for tons of bass, knowing that it will drown out other frequencies and some clarity

I've been looking at these 2 headphones to upgrade from my HD 598s, I've had these for about 5 years and I really love the soundstage, but my musical tastes are pretty different from 5 years ago and I could use a bit more bass. I've gone back to a few pairs of abandoned sidegrade headphones I have and I wasn't satisfied, so I'm pretty sure I want to upgrade to one of these two. How would you compare these 2 cans in terms of soundstage and bass?

My two favourites - Sundara and 6xx

 They are light and comfortable and many people love them, I just dont. I even prefer my audio tech m50x's to these, which are meh at best, to these. I actually thought my set was defective but a friend has the same set and his are exactly the same. He uses them for light listening which admittedly they are great at, but sometimes you want to actually crank the volume a bit and these really sound bad at volume

 Bass is decent at low volumes. I can run my Sennheiser 650s or hifiman 400is so loud i can hear them throughout my whole house (1500sqr ft villa). These things will be full distortion at that kind of volume or even close to it honestly. Maybe I just listen to my music too loud? Last year I bought SuperLux HD 681s (non-evo) but the wires broke the solder. I fixed them about a month ago but they broke again. Wires stripped and frayed beyond repair.

Should I get another pair of 681s or can someone recommend some with better build quality?

 With that said, I tested the performance of the DT 770 Pro while playing Call Of Duty Black Ops 4. The best map, which showcases the performance of the best is the “Occupation” map, which is a close-quarters. I could hear what was going on and direction, where the action was taking place on the map, whether it was dialogue, gunshots or explosions. Of course, footsteps could be heard, as well

 Well, the DT 770 Pro, picks up footsteps in games VERY well.  LOWS/MIDS: The lows and mids are great, as they pick up subtle sounds with no effort, thanks to the headphones lows. I am hearing sounds, which I could barely hear with other headphones, such as the breaking of glass from afar, breakage of pottery, or bullet casings hitting the floor. Then, there are detailed sounds, such as the unbelievable sound of crunching, as my character was trampling through the deep snow, cracking of the ice or sounds of moving water, while swimming on the Icebreaker map

 Considering, these are closed-back headphones, they have a decent soundstage. Possibly, the best of most closed-back headphones or headsets. Of course, the result is not comparable to open-back headphones, which has a greater, more open soundstage by default. Of course, I am sure, some are wondering about footsteps

Looking to spend around $400-500 (I actually live in the UK if that's important, but converted to dollars as most of you are probably more familiar with that) on my first headphone setup that would be used in my office, but I could be pushed up if it's really worth it. I've heard lots of good things about the hd 6xx and saw someone pair it with the Jotunheim. Also heard good things about the ifi zen dac paired with something like the hd 650's. Very new to this hobby and wondered what everyone's opinions on those setups or maybe a better one would be? I mostly listen to Hip-Hop music but also enjoy slower, melody based piano based music too, as well as Pop, R&amp;B and Indie. (weird variety, I know) I'm also looking for something that would be upgradable in the future.

New here and looking to get into the hobby with my first setup

 When done this way, you can achieve a highly accurate and complete correction of the colorization (see photo). Do note that if you do this, to not apply as much correction as you get closer to the high end because of the way the headphones behave with volume changes - you will want to only correct about 2/3 to 1/2 as much to give some room for these changes.  If you bother to do this - it will drastically improve the sound profile of these headphones. It will feel like you added 100's of dollars of value to them because frankly - it's quite difficult to manufacture headphones to sound uncolored by themselves - the physics behind it will always introduce some colorized sound

 I'm not concerned with the way they look. They aren't displeasing to me - but I'm also not thinking these are the coolest looking phones, but I don't care about that.

  As for the build quality - pretty sure these will last a lifetime with care. There's nothing particular cheaply made that I noticed about these phones. I'm not concerned with the way they look. Great headphones, but with some EQ correction, can be excellent headphones

Hi HeadphoneAdvice!

I was looking to get some new headphones for my brother for his birthday. He will be turning 16 at the end of the month and has been using some old fake beats by Dre Dre. I don’t know much about this space so that’s why I decided to look for some help here! 

I am looking to spend maybe $200-400. 

I know he wants on the ear headphones because over the ear makes his glasses press against his head and he doesn’t like that feeling. 

His primary use for the headphones is just at home for games and discord, talking to his friends. No noise cancel is preferred as he wants to be able to hear mom come upstairs.  I think his headphones now are just audio Jack into his computer, so that would be preferred as well I suppose. But if there’s something better out there, I’d be open to looking at anything.

He listens to like j-rock, anime music as far as I know. Not really bass heavy stuff so maybe something that’s more balanced would fit well here. 

If I’m missing anything please let me know! Willing to offer more information if need be! Thank you!

<p>edit1: He has a standalone microphone already, so just the headphones for sound is needed.</p>

<p>FINAL CHOICE: Just felt like updating this post with what I ended up going with. Ended up picking the Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro for him. So far, he seems to be enjoying it! He says they look a little funny on his head but he likes how they sound! They don’t fit too tight on his head and push in on his glasses much. </p>

Birthday gift for teen boy

especially as most headphones headband's padding are built in and can't be replaced.  Edit: The included travel pouch feels cheap, but is plenty big enough to fit everything easily. I tried them out on a friend's laptop, it was some fairly cheap laptop from his work, and it easily powered these past comfortable levels. That said I didn't do any serious listening, but I was quite sure the quality of the audio solution built into it wasn't that great

That said I didn't do any serious listening, but I was quite sure the quality of the audio solution built into it wasn't that great.(End of Edit)  Note: The ATH-M50's are over 2 years old, maybe even closer to 3, so the clamping force on them is fairly weak, and being someone with glasses means they likely don't get a perfect seal. Therefore take some comparisons with a slight grain of salt, I'd still prefer the 770's over the M50's but they aren't bad cans by any means

  TLDR?:Overview at the bottom. Amazing. I upgraded from the AudioTechnica ATH-M50's, and I'm glad I did. In terms of overall clarity I can't say that they blow the M50's out of the water or anything, but I love the sound of these cans

While a frequency response graph may not agree completely, I'd say they have that fUn curve, flat enough to not be too overwhelming, but definitely more bass and treble than mids. And my god the bass, if you think the M50's are bass monsters I'd say you're crazy(even before hearing these), it might be the really good isolation on these helping out, but they boom

  Overview: Pros: -Tight boomy bass without being overwhelming -Clear enough for many professionals(often used for studio monitoring) -Fun U(or V) sound signature -Comfy velour pads -Quality materials -Most parts are replaceable(fairly easily for the padding) -Great passive noise isolation, but can still hear if needed -Big enough to fit most heads/ears -Carry bag can hold the headphones and cable easily, it's huge...though cheap feeling  Cons: -Sharp/harsh highs -Sizing the headband could have better fine adjustment -Pads need replacement every 1-2 years depending on usage(even with cleaning they will flatten out and change the sound) -Coiled cable is rather tight and unforgiving -Clamping force *might* be too much for the more sensitive(nowhere near as bad as ATH-M50's) -250ohm version may not reach full potential with portable use/weak built in amplifiers on products(to be expected from high impedance versions and there is the 80ohm version
