 The PHS doesn't work with the app over Bluetooth, it is Wi-Fi only. So there is no way to check the battery level with voice prompts & Wi-Fi turned off, for example, among other things like adjusting the speaker's built-in equalizer.

For the Revolve & Revolve+ Bose introduced what they called a "pressure trap" into the passive radiator system that guaranteed distortion-less passive radiators - something that always resulted in clean, loud bass.

A leap forward over the Revolve+

 They sound like real speakers and indeed can fill a decent sized living room with sound. I should also note that you can link up the flex with other bose speakers in party mode. In other words, you can mix and match, but to get stereo sound you'll need another flex. I'Ll finish by saying that pricing for bluetooth speakers has been a little weird

 One thing: that's missing is an audio input, so you can't connect an audio device via an auxiliary cable. This is strictly a bluetooth speaker, bose's soundlink micro also delivers impressive, sound for its tiny size. This does feel like it's in the same family, but is almost twice as big weighing just over a pound or 0.45 kilograms, and it sounds significantly better than the micro with better battery life

 When you pair two flexes together in stereo mode, i felt the same way about the sonos roam. You just get real stereo separation and both the sound stage and bass seem so much bigger as a pair. They sound like real speakers and indeed can fill a decent sized living room with sound. I should also note that you can link up the flex with other bose speakers in party mode

Bose SoundLink Flex review: Mini but mighty good

I purchased the *Bose Portable Speaker* for the Airplay 2 capabilities and it has been nothing but pain and heartache. I’ve been 100% disappointed in this product.

ok.. I have recently setup an Asus ZenWifi AX mini network in my home, and I have started to experience some weird issues that I am hoping the community can help me with.

I have several Apple Homepod Mini speakers as well as two Bose Smart Speakers (Home Speaker 500 and Home Speaker portable)

Until recently, the Bose speakers worked fine with AirPlay 2. HomePod minis and Apple TVs show no issues

Here's where I am struggling with the variables.. Around the time that I added my Bose Speakers to my Apple Home App, I am pretty sure they were working just fine with AirPlay 2. However, since I added them to (and have subsequently removed them from) the Apple Home App, I have had some weird issues.

Since installing the Asus ZenWifi and having added my speakers to the Home App (again, all around the same time, so trying to understand the variables here), I have had issues using my Bose speakers with Airplay 2. The only way that they will work is if I use the Bose Music App and rename the speakers. Once I rename them, i can use them with Airplay for a bit (a few hours, give or take) and then they 'break' and I can no longer connect to them.

Initially I had assumed that some how Apple had bogarted the Bose speaker mac addresses and since I removed them from the Home App this somehow caused some pain. I have been using my Apple TV as my home hub, and have reset my Apple TV with no change in how the Bose speakers work.

So basically I am in this place. My Bose speakers work once I rename them, for a period of time. Then they break and I have to rename them again to get AirPlay to work again. This is repeatable and it works without fail. Even if I rename the speakers to something new (say from Living Room to Attic) or I rename them to something and then immediately back (Living Room to Attic then back to Living Room)

From an Asus network perspective, I have bound them to a specific AP and have unbound them with no change in experience.

I guess I am hoping to find someone with enough understanding of AirPlay and how Apple implements it to help me figure out what's going on.

Can't imagine that both Bose speakers (which have been factory reset, btw) have all of a sudden had AirPlay break on them, or why my Apple TV and my Homepod Mini's have no issues at all.

I am close to getting a new wifi router to test and see if it's my network, but hoping to get some insight from the community.

Weird AirPlay issues

When I bought the Bose Portable Home Speaker (PHS), I wanted to know how it measured up to the older Bluetooth-only Bose Revolve+. I've had it for a little over a year now and it is a significant generational leap forward over the Revolve+.  Pros over Revolve+:  a) 20-30 % louder b) Higher fidelity and louder bass while only being slightly larger than Revolve+ (doesn't feel much heavier) Bose has changed their sound signature slightly for this speaker where at near max volume it compresses sound in a much, much more pleasing way versus the Micro, Revolve, Revolve+ c) Higher quality streaming over Wi-Fi & Spotify Connect d) Similar in sound quality to Bose Home Speaker 300 (which is a non-portable speaker) e) 180 degree charging port on bottom - as long as the speaker is handle-side up you can set it on the charging dock (not included) in any direction and it just works.   For the Revolve & Revolve+ Bose introduced what they called a "pressure trap" into the passive radiator system that guaranteed distortion-less passive radiators - something that always resulted in clean, loud bass.  This was really, really neat and a huge improvement over most other speakers with a passive radiator setup. It also greatly improved upon the design on the Soundlink Mini as it had a habit of distorting at louder volumes.  Unfortunately, the PHS does not use this system, and with an extra 3rd passive radiator (as opposed to the 2 in the older generation of speakers) and the fact that they are tuned louder than ever, the PHS can end up distorting wildly on some very mainstream songs - although it's "only" observable above 50 % volume

 It does allow you to mono-pair with Bose's other Wi-Fi speakers, including their current gen soundbars and other home Wi-Fi speakers, and even allows you to pair with older gen Bluetooth speakers (such as the Revolve and Revolve+), just not in stereo.  In general, when buying a 360 degree mono speaker like this it is because they get louder and have more bass than their similarly sized stereo speakers - this is why other manufacturers have also started producing mono speakers, like the JBL Flip 5. In exchange for this you can typically pair another speaker in stereo to get a much more powerful setup - it's unfortunate Bose does away with this in the PHS.  e) (-1 star) The passive radiators can distort

My mind has been blown that Bose has left the amp market for years now yet still sells speakers requiring amps. I keep thinking surely they will come out with someone soon compatible with Bose Music app, but I am about to give up. I need an amp with Airplay 2 to power my 791s. (I don’t want to move to Sonos… yet) I can still buy a used SA-5 on eBay for $800+ which seems to be a great value?

I have (4) 791s. I can power them with (1) SA-5. 
Is there another amp out there that always shows available for Airplay like the SA-5? I don’t want to look around for a remote to turn the amp on and set it to airplay. 

Bose would make so much money selling the SA-5 again. Or the SA-4 with a Bose Music/Airplay2 adapter… smh…

Best Airplay 2 Amp to power Bose (4) 791s

The Bose Portable Home Speaker - Wireless Smart Speaker with Bluetooth and Google Assistant Built-in has absolutely incredible sound for a speaker of this size. There's not only a ton of bass, but the separation between the bass and mids/highs is nothing short of extraordinary. I don't know if it's the best sound for a portable speaker in this price range, but it's definitely the best sound I've heard from a speaker this size. The speaker is smaller than I thought it would be from the box, standing only 7

 And then it announces to everyone listening "Connected to so-and-so's phone". I despise this feature and that you can't disable it.

 So I have only been able to connect with bluetooth, and unfortunately it just doesn't work very well with bluetooth. I get often get a broken up, glitchy connection if my phone (iPhone X) is more than 8 feet away.

Amazing sound but with some unfortunate quirks

 It works well with WIFI and Bluetooth. No early dropout. At first listen it wasn’t bad. It has more low end than the revolve+ but it seemed to leave the mids sounding a bit thin

 It is that resonating frequency that annoys me because it is so loud compared to all other frequencies.

 For a price of $349.99 this should be up there with the best sounding Bluetooth speakers on the market. Let’s hope Bose sends an update to remedy this.

 For it’s size it is still amazing that it can produce the sound it does. I think a software update could fix these issues.
