 Hey guys, it's Kip from Famous by Friday Pickleball, got a brand new paddle to review, it is the Diadem Icon. Diadem has been around, I think they started making tennis rackets in 2015, they've just kind of entered into the pickleball world, a lot of the tennis companies have. I believe their first paddle was an entry level paddle, which is fine. This is their first kind of venture into the players paddle market

 Oh, great bounce, wow, okay, good shot, woo, I'll put it back, that's my shot, uh, poor one. Hey guys, I'm back, just spent the last few weeks hitting this new Diadem Ipon paddle, that's so much fun, this is really, really a nice paddle, really like a lot of what it does, usually in my videos I start out with the positives, I'm going to throw a little possible negative out there to start this, um, Diadem knows that this is going to discolor during time, uh, the more you hit it, the more it's going to discolor, I don't know whether the felt just picks up the dye off of the ball, I, I don't know how it happens, but they know it does happen, it happens almost instantly, from the very first moment you hit this paddle, and I hope this is picking it up on the camera, it begins to change, uh, it doesn't affect playability, but it does turn colors, now, is that a big thing? Maybe, once again, that goes back to personal preference, you spend a lot of money on these paddles, we all do, um, I believe this is around 150 US, um, so you want this to not only hold up playability, uh, structurally, but also visually, uh, that can really affect some people negatively, uh, when you look down at your paddle and realize it's turning green, um, once again, this, this may not affect that, it may not be a big deal at all, but I'd really be remiss if I didn't point this out and say, this is, this is going to happen instantly, Dye-Dem knows this, they know it's going to happen, they post it, they're very open about it, there are other paddles out there that also discolor, uh, so this is not totally abnormal, but it does happen pretty quick, once again, it doesn't affect playability at all, um, structurally, it's a very fun paddle to hit because of, it's one thing, I think I pointed out in the opening, it's an eight millimeter paddle, so it's nice and thin, it doesn't have a guard on the outside, it's, it's eight ounces, they also have a light weight that's, I think, seven, seven, five, seven, seven, but, um, this, this is their heavier weight version, it's just eight ounces, it's very headlight, very maneuverable, you can get to your spots very quick with this paddle, sweet spot wise, you can hit pretty much anywhere across the face and it's going to go exactly where you were aiming, now it may not have perfect pace, but it's still, it's still going to be accurate no matter where you hit this on the face, if you do hit it down here a little bit, it does push the ball, you kind of get a ball that goes out a little bit further, um, but other than that, you can hit it pretty much anywhere and you're going to get that same response, feedback is wonderful, across the entire face, you know exactly where that ball came off of, if you watch my videos in the past, you'll know that I'm, I'm a big feedback person, I want to know where that ball came off the face of the paddle, this has tremendous feedback, it's very soft, but yet it has power, it almost does everything really, really, really well, it's very soft, so dinking is just super easy, resets super easy, third shot drop super easy because of the feel, because it's soft, because it just, it's just playable, very playable, it has depth though, you get power out of it, if you want to swing away at something, you're going to have power, you're going to have depth, what you're not going to have is a flyer that goes way out of the court, it does everything really, really well, I can't, I couldn't find anything I didn't like about this paddle other than the discoloration of the face, spin, if you want to put spin on this, I think I said in the opening that this kind of velvety face was probably going to grab the ball, it does, you can spin, if you're a spin enthusiast, you can spin, I use a little backspin, I use a little topspin, it does both really, really well, it doesn't really have anything that it does poorly, it, like I said, spins good, powers good, accuracy is good, control is good, you can really just place the ball wherever you want to, it is so friendly to use, if you are thinking about a new paddle at all, I just really try this, I think, I really believe you'll like it, I had a friend of mine that is a 5.0 plus player going pro, and he loved this paddle, almost, I mean, just played one game with it and he loved it, try it, try it, I think you'll really like it, I think you'll enjoy it, they've done a great job with this paddle as far as all the research and development, and they went with a wild swing with this sort of a cover, so try it, I would love to hear your thoughts if you do try it, I'm excited to hear your thoughts, just as always, please hit like, hit subscribe, try this paddle, I think you'll love it, I really want to hear your thoughts on it, I'm excited about this paddle, I will be playing with this from now on, unless I try something I really like more, this is going to come out of my bag, so I'm really happy with this paddle, I really hope, if you guys try it, let me know, I hope you like it too, thank you for stopping by, get out and play pickleball, it's a fun sport, enjoy, let me hear from you, thank you so much, have a great day.

Thin core paddle comparisons

I bought this in the black model after using a friend's Icon, except his was white. I loved the power and almost rubbery-like surface for spin control. Upon arrival, this one was similar but there is no rubbery-like surface, in fact there's almost no surface treatment to impart spin. It does have the same power but not what I wanted in surface treatment

Need some advice please! Debating between the selkirk 2.0 invikta vanguard or the diadem warrior edge. I'm pretty short at 5'1 so definitely hoping the elongated would help with the reach. I have a tennis background. Which is better overall in your opinion?

Selkirk or Diadem?

 The white surface on the Selkirk did not pickup any writing from the exact same balls. I know white will get dirty over time. I did not expect to see the black print on the ball transfer to the paddle in an exact backwards replica. Selkirk did it better

I’m a 3.5-4.0 player. I play in tournaments every once in a while so i want a better paddle but maybe like a $200 max cost. I put a bit of spin on my serve but am generally a touch/dink player. I tried the Selkirk epic vanguard today and I liked it but some I played with said the Selkirk Amped s2 is better and suggested getting that instead. does anyone have any suggestions of paddles on the lighter side for touch and a bit of spin? Thanks
