I have a DJI mini that came in handy after a hurricane last year. I was able to assess tree damage on our property and I used it to monitor flood waters from a creek 1/2 mile from our house.

Something I've noticed recently is the use of drones in an emergency situation. Whether its a natural disaster or the war in Ukraine, camera footage shot on drones is quickly finding its way into the news media. And this got me thinking, would having a small, lightweight drone be a useful prep? Is a drone in your preps?

Drones as a prep

Looks nice but feels cheap and light, very light-weight. More like kids toy, not worth for the price. Will have to return. I wish Costco carry the Mavic 3 model

DJI mini 3 has the benefit of more tracking features over the mini 2. Also collision avoidance is something to consider. My opinion is that mini 3 is worth that extra money if you can afford it.

Was thinking of getting one before traveling to Scotland. Do you know what are the regulations in the UK for &lt;250g drones? What about Asia and Europe? 

\+ Is it worth getting a drone for recreational use if I travel around 2 times a year? 

Lastly, I am not sure if it's worth spending double the amount for DJI mini 3 instead of the mini 2. What do you guys think?

Is worth getting DJI mini 2 over the new mini 3 for a beginner?

i Like the Drone but if you are going to get one its worth to spend the extra $200 and het the controller with the screen.

I believe the DJI Mini 3 is going to be released soon and ultimately the price for the second one will drop. I would recommend it if you can find everything you want for around $450.00 - $500.00 but if you don’t won’t to wait, I don’t think it’s a terrible price

I'm looking at buying the DJI mini 2, at $600, with the fly more combo. I'm an ameture video maker who would like to continue doing this as a career when I get older. would this be a worthwhile investment?

should I get a drone?

 Super light weight and easy to travel and setup. I have had it flown in high wind situations and handled everything I've thrown at it so far. However, one thing I noticed is that it doesn't have as good of Signal range as was advertised. During a recent flight, I was only able to get around 1400 meters of range, where I had clear sight of the drone from a higher elevation (mountain) and I completely lost connection to the drone but thanks to its safety features, the drone eventually returned back to me (Return Home Feature)- which is why I recommend this drone to Beginners

 However, one thing I noticed is that it doesn't have as good of Signal range as was advertised. Excellent Drone for Beginners and Even Pros

I use my DJI Mini for this when I am overlanding with the family. Scout ahead to avoid time wasting and getting stuck.

So, I have professionally used DJI products for 8 years now. This little drone is apparently a big bang for the buck. Once I bought it, having never opened the box. I did some additional homework

 I DJI, I probably will go for the Air 2s or weight for their next new roll out. Good luck!

 This was caused by a  cooling fan failure that could have could have resulted in a loss of the drone completely. Fortunately, I managed to land and replace cooling fan myself without any damage to the old drone. This old drone was originally intended to be a back up but soon became the most durable one I have owned. I still use it today

You're not going to be satisfied with that budget. Bad drone, bad control and bad camera.

I’m looking for a drone with a run time of at least 30mins to a hour my price range 50$-200$ I intend to use it for sky photos, features I want are a good camera I want it to be foldable and features I don’t care for is how big or small it is.

 Packaging from the Costco warehouse was not great. The box with the drone was placed in another box without any packing and it is obvious by the corners on the drone box that it bumped around a lot during shipping.  Luckily, it does not appear to have done any damage to the drone. As always, great bundle deal by Costco with extra batteries, battery charger, and an SD card
