Hubsan X4 was the quad I started from years ago, and it was perfect for a kid - simple control, inexpensive, and lots of fun. 

I have all the FPV gear myself, and they fly my whoops sometimes. But I can't just let them use it, I have to supervise it - the goggles are expensive and fragile, the transmitter is huge and complicated, and the batteries are quite expensive and they run them to zero every time.

  The first few flights were very short and involved a steep learning curve. Adjusting the trim mid-flight can be tricky because you often run out of space quickly. I eventually got the hang of it and got pretty good at maintaining a steady float. Position is very dependent upon the wind; very slight breezes can make this light copter drift quite a bit; I should have paid more attention to this, as will become clear

  After charging the battery and bolting on the prop guard (which not only helps protect the propeller, it also helps to stabilize some of the flight dynamics), I powered up, calibrated the controller, calibrated the accelerometers, and set the sensitivity to 40 per the reviews I read and videos I watched. My test flight area is our large front yard, fairly clear of trees.  The first few flights were very short and involved a steep learning curve. Adjusting the trim mid-flight can be tricky because you often run out of space quickly

I took off one star for two small issues: there is no way to find it if lost; a ping or chirp from a copter which loses contact with the transmitter would be a welcome addition. These are pretty minor; as I noted, I've already purchased a replacement and will likely be getting my son the non-camera version for him to learn to fly

It's much harder to judge drift when the drone is more than about 40 or 50 feet up and before you know it your drone may be up over a tree or some stranger's yard, and you haven't got the skills to bring it back.  5) The least-worst solution to almost any dilemma is cut all power and just let the drone fall

 The cam is better on the H107C than the other cams I've tried on quads in this price range, even in low light. It likes the JJRC-1000 bullnose props, too which is awesome because I have a bunch of them. This tiny quadcopter is well designed and reasonably sturdy. The controls take getting used to - it's nothing like driving a car.  now that being said i bought 5 extra battery's also the crash kit and the extra ring... now on the controller you will need 4 AAA battery's i am new to this so i don't take it up high and don't panic when the wind blows it off course a little

i did tsake it up to about 50 ft and coming down it shook cause it was windy but still very easy to use under little wind cond
