 I've had several of these satellite communication devices in the last 10 years or so. I started out with a spot and then I had a spot gen 3 and then from there I went to the I think I had the spot connect which was a very like first version of the satellite Communications with being able to use text messaging from your phone and then from there I went to the spot X which was like the newest which is the newest version of The spot where you had it has a little quarry keyboard on it. You can type out You know messages that way and it didn't have the option to connect it to your phone The current version of the spot X does have that ability but in my opinion, it's just not as good as the Garmin About Oh five months ago I picked up this Garmin 66i and the reason I went with the 66i over the standard in reach is That the in reach is awesome. The only con that I can think of with the Garmin 66 I is the battery life it's not awful, but They say that you're supposed to get I think 24 hours of continuous service out of it I'll look that up and leave it leave it in the comments below or somewhere right here on the screen But I have noticed that I pretty much if I have it running all day tracking and sending messages Then I pretty much need to charge it at camp that night

Poor documentation makes this product a challenge to use

 That's so cool You know here in Colorado, there's four These mule deer and then once while you see a bear and all and pretty cool out here So I was talking to Customer Garmin customer service and I was talking to them about you know Hey, are you gonna come out with something to replace the Garmin inReach Explorer plus and They said there was no information on it right now or at least that they could tell me But they told me to this one guy told me he uses a 66i and it basically does everything That's a Garmin inReach Explorer plus does so I took a look at it and sure enough. He's correct But I want to give you a heads up real quick the battery life on this is only Depending on how you use it. It's only about Maybe a day and a half to two and a half days very short battery life compared to the Garmin inReach Mini mini 2 Explorer plus they'll last for a week or two again. So let's wrap this thing up

I’m interested in buying the Tactix Delta Solar but I’m curious if the ability to record a GPX file is better than that of the Fenix 5X Plus. 

When it comes to hiking - I use the GPSMAP66ST but would like to use the Tactix Delta Solar in its place. 

Let me know what your experience is with the Tactix Delta Solar is.

Tactix Delta Solar - GPX recording

 This resulted in the system turning off and corrupting the fit file. The pointer on the map stopped working today On two hikes the tracking has turned off The Garmin Connet app and the Garmin Explore app are terrible and I mean terrible. Today I went for a hike and the Connect app lost its connection with the Garmin 66i. To reconnect the smartphone app you with the 66i you need an internet connection that was not present because you in the mountains The 66i does not have a 121

Does everything that Garmin Says it will do, well maybe

They are more durable and have a way longer battery life. My cell phone won't last more than maybe 6-8 hours running GPS. My Garmin 66i will last 35 hours with tracking points being sent out every 10 minutes, 200 hours in power save mode sending points every 30 minutes.

I am planning to go on several days hike in remote backcountry areas in the Yukon and North-West Territories, Canada. I'm wondering if a stand-alone GPS would be better than a phone app since the satellite coverage will not as good as in southern Canada. And if so would it be worth the $300?

Better satellite coverage with stand-alone GPS or with a cellphone app?

 2- Holy crap does this thing makes you feel like there's some TSA section just for it. You have to download 3 different apps and sync all them fudgeRS to get this puppy going. 3- Maps!!!!! What in the hell are those?!!! you're paying about $600 per unit(I got 2) and this suckers don't come with maps for you to do your own/custom routing!!!!!! YOU HAVE TO SHELL OUT an extra $20 + tax (download).

.AN EXTRA $20 + TAX!!! 4- There's no warning fo turn by turn, none. BUT OF COURSE THAT COULD BE SOLVED BY an extra $20 + tax.

FOR THE MAPS!!!!  Stay tune, soon I'll be getting lost (out of my own volition) and putting that iNREACH to the test, hopefully it'll goes well or I"LL HAVE TO GET THE $20 + TAX MAPS!!!
