 But anyway, this one looks a lot like an HE1000 and it kind of looks like an HE1000V2 and it even has a certain look of a Hi-Fi Man Sazvera and the Hi-Fi Man Edition X but this has a new headband. See the others, you could turn the, swivel the earcups a little bit and these don't, these are sort of rigidly attached, I mean you can make it go up and down for different size heads but there's no swivel in the earcups. But nonetheless, they're very comfortable headphones, they're lighter than most, these are 14 ounces which is about 400 grams. They're very open sounding as you might imagine seeing that you can see the driver right through that grill, there's no damping or anything on the back side of the driver there

 This is, this guy I can say, Dick Hyman plays Fats Waller on reference recordings. This one is really, really good, this is second best. But this guy on MA recording, you know the thing that I love about this recording is you actually get a sense of the scale of a large grand piano, that is so rare. It's not compressed so when Nucho here is banging away, you feel it

 I doubt it's being streamed anywhere so yeah I'm sorry I've got to get one of these puppies to hear it, but that's the way life goes, sometimes you've got to struggle to get the best. Reviewed: Hifiman Ananda headphone + music review

 Before you get too excited about the rating at the top of the page, however, keep in mind the HiFiMan Ananda headphones reviewed here cost $999. That's no typo&mdash;three 9s. Their planar magnetic drivers and open design provide a superb sense of space and detail throughout the frequency range. In my testing, it felt like I was hearing some tracks I've listened to for years for the very first time

 The lower register instrumentation is alive. The reflections from the brass stabs, the subtle echo of the vocals, everything here sounds natural, gorgeous, balanced, and real. In fact, everything I listened to, whether it was Marvin Gaye or PJ Harvey, or Ligeti or Miles Davis' Sketches of Spain, impressed me in a way I haven't been in a long, long time.

 The speakers were always muted&mdash;the Ananda's drivers simply create a space for your ears like few headphones do.

 The headband fit is secure and also quite comfortable, with a thin leather strap that rests atop your head while the matte black band rises over the top, never making contact with you. 

HiFiMan Ananda Review

 I have higher expectations for headphones that is a quarter of the Ananda’s price. (One can study apple or oneplus's packaging) Even the fancy leather looking box is poorly designed. It’s useless after you take out the headphone. While the box looks big, it is a tight fit

 While I really did not expect the Ananda to beat my speakers, Ananda did sound more detailed which presents another side of the music and a different feel. Quality, fit and finish, and packaging are a big disappointment. I have higher expectations for headphones that is a quarter of the Ananda’s price.  Very detail sound & separation of the details  Bad: While I bought it here, NEW from Hifiman. The shipper just slapped a shipping label on the retail box, no shipping box. The retail / leather box arrived dirty, scratched and unsealed. When I opened it, the headphone was filthy, lots of dandruffs inside both ear cups

 It’s useless after you take out the headphone. While the box looks big, it is a tight fit. In order to store the headphone in it, you have to unplug the wires and shrink the headband. It is a chore and not sure how long those plugs and the head band will last if you do it frequently

Good sound, so-so built and bad quality control

 Really the only thing that this could have done a little bit better is that punch and slam quality, but I think that's just the nature of this sort of design. And so for classical music, acoustic music, jazz music, anything with pianos, anything with acoustic guitars, yeah, the Hi-Fi Man Ananda is just fantastic. So that does it for this review. Thanks for taking the time to watch

 The Hi-Fi Man Ananda is going to get a 8.6 out of 10. There are a few things where the Hi-Fi Man Ananda takes a step back from the Sundara, but in just about every other category, it is a step forward. And then at around $700, which is what this is currently on sale for, I don't think that there's anything better than the Hi-Fi Man Ananda at this price

 And the last thing that you gain with the Ananda is a little bit more bass presence and bass extension. And it's not that the Sundara doesn't have full sub-bass extension either, at least on this newer revision. It's just that the Ananda has a little bit more energy there. The flip side here is that what you lose a little bit in comparison is that sense of punch and impact

 Not necessarily the overall resolution that's conferred by the frequency response and that's something that we'll talk about later on. But for that image clarity concept that I like to talk about, yeah, I don't know if there's actually anything at the $700 price range that's as good as the Ananda. I think this is actually a bit of a benchmark there. And that's absolutely the case because when you switch to the Ananda, you suddenly get the rest of that stage

HiFiMAN Ananda Review - worth it over Sundara?

  I do have some complaints however, this is a 3 star review for a reason. I primarily listen to music for pleasure, I don't create or master music. Using these cans as a pure utility is amazing, but for listening to music I find myself underwhelmed, almost dissapointed. My experience with the tuning is such that the low end on these cans is simply not enough for an enjoyable listening experience

The quality, dynamics, and ability for it to not distort while reproducing lower frequencies is good, but the amount and impact is, soft and quieter than you'd want for tracks with heavy basslines or music scores with low rumbles and booming orchestral scenes. You find yourself looking for a bass boost button you must have turned off, but no, that's how these sound with purely neutral sources, bass light, slightly underwhelming

(For reference I'm powering these off a Schiit asgard 3, with a TEAC UD-501 dac, and Audirvana as a source with various lossless formats, mostly Sacd rips.)  And that's just the sound quality

Technically impressive, musically soulless.

I bought this for music/gaming. (primarily music) I have tried the Hifiman Sundara and Beyerdynamic DT 1990 Pro prior to purchasing this and it sounded much better than the other two, but I was not impressed with the build quality. The provided cord looks cheap, the ear pads are mediocre and you can notice irregularities on the metal mesh design. These aforementioned issues I could have sacrificed since they really sound good but after less than a month of use (around 1-3 hrs a day excluding the initial 20 hr burn-in), the right driver would have an intermittent hissing noise

 It is a great sounding and comfortable headphone, definitely worth it if you only consider the sound quality but I would expect a headphone at this price point to be durable enough to last a couple of years and have better quality control.

Great sound not so great Build/QC

 They are comfortable, and not fatiguing at all. If only Hifiman's quality control did a better job, I could recommend these. But what's the use of having a pair of headphones that sound amazing if the driver could go out at any time? Buy these at your own risk! If you are lucky and get a pair with no issues, then you will enjoy the comfort and sound quality. If you're like me, you'll have to send them back for a refund, then switch to Audeze LCD-2s, which have great sound AND great build quality

I am in the market of a mid-high end headphones with natural sound and great staging/imaging capability. I read many other reviews about this model has good sound staging. But result has been very disappointing. I understand that this is an open back headphone but it has gone a bit too far in terms of "open"

Open back being too open

 They don't delivery a "magical" sound. I found I even better like my HD660s. I was expecting for "something". HD660s bring even more clear sound
