 Shall we, if you're new, to the channel, welcome here on fridays, we do mainly knife reviews, so occasionally i'll do a view of some associated survival or camping gear. You know cooking equipment, lights, compasses, that sort of thing and on mondays we do knife basics.  It'S got a very nice clip point and it's nice, it's fairly comfortable hand. It'S five inches closed, a 3.875 inch blade. It is a lock back, unlike the buck, it's got thumb studs, so you can open it one-handed

A bit of Rust upon unboxing but a phenomenal piece overall!

 So that's not a bad price. For a K bar o'clock knife, you know of this style real g10. You know it's a decent knife, Canadian prices for this amazon.ca - that's Canada's Amazon has it for 3167

 You'Ve got a little over half of an inch of the knife, sticking out, not quite three quarters of an inch and you've got that sort of dull gray color. So it's not too visible. People aren't gon na see it for easily in a pair of blue jeans. But yes, it is there, it's not a high gloss, but it's not a complete matte finish either and the pocket clip you can hear it

 Twelve point: seven centimeters five inches almost exactly the grip area between my fingernails of my pinky's right here is eleven point: four centimeters four and a half inches the handle thickness back here, not counting the pocket that one point one six centimeters, which is point four. Five. Five inches of just under half of an inch thick, and I did it again - I didn't do the conversion into inches. The total length of this knife is twenty-two point two five centimeters thread around eight and three-quarter inches

 On this one of the advantages of a softer steel, is it's going to be easier to sharpen? So if you do use this and you need to sharpen often all you will need to sharp them more often, but sometimes you just want a softer steel depending on what you're cutting if you're cutting certain things more regularly and if you want an easy job of Sharpening your knife, another good reason to get a blade with 420 is, if you're learning how to sharpen, because it'll go more quickly, you know start teaching you the skills and will start giving you the muscle memory, no matter what style of sharpener that you use. If you do completely hand sharpening on a whetstone or if you use a system where you're sliding a abrasive pad across all of them requires some muscle memory, they require practice, they require learning and often a softer Steel's good. For that, for the learning process, the we've got hex screws. Those are allen keys right there for the pivot, so you can adjust it if you want to, which is a good thing

Review of the Ka Bar 3189 Folding Hunter STR

 When open there isn't too much blade play to complain about. It comes very sharp and for a cheaper steel yes it doesn't hold an edge like your more premium steels but is MUCH easier to sharpen. If you're looking for a GOOD beater or a field knife you wouldn't mind really using or work knife that you can trust than look no further.

 Actually love the blade shape and even though its a cheaper coating I like the color scheme. A little too much blade play when it's closed and I can't seem to get the blade centered at all. When open there isn't too much blade play to complain about. It comes very sharp and for a cheaper steel yes it doesn't hold an edge like your more premium steels but is MUCH easier to sharpen

 Pivot, um there's a little bit of a wobble, just a hair um, not enough that i'd worry about it um again, it goes back to the not doing anything super heavy duty with it end up being 18 bucks. You know i'd if i paid two three hundred dollars for a knife and i had a wobble like that it might be upset, but but this guy not so much so yeah. That'S that's kind of my take on that um. As far as you saw it next to the 110

 There um don't have a whole a lot of other ones. That would would compare similar blade on on the luzon completely different, handle and opening mechanism, but unlock but kind of get the idea so yeah. That'S my take on the kbar folding hunter now i'll leave links below uh to where you can pick one up. [34] Ka-Bar 3189 Folding Hunter

I own several knives in this style (which we could call Buck 110 copies), and while the Buck 110 is a knife that is totally worth it's price point, this one is also, which is to say, it's a cheap knife. The edge came in about as dull as one could wish against and still be called a live edge. The blade geometry is okay, but does not hold a lot of hope for edge retention over time. I am fairly skilled at knife sharpening, so this does little but take up some extra time, but I am disappointed that something like this came off the line with a name like KA-BAR

It makes me wonder if I should rethink buying the much larger and more expensive KA-BAR 9190 or 1220.

Decent for the price, but...

 The thing is great: it's just a great great overall folding knife. It comes sharp, it comes strong, it comes sturdy. It comes long, it's ready to go man. This thing out of the box is great great

 I know I think it's like the hunter folder. I want to get it right. I believe that's what you call it, but it's the 3189 alright and that's the number on it. Great great knife, so far, let's keep going alright, let's drop it into your stuff

 Oh, let's pull some of these hairs off. You could see that flyaway poop man, you could still see this hairs all on the blade right there. I'M talking crazy, crazy, sharp. This thing is: it's like holding a little razor blade, it's freaking cool

 You know, and I have to say that this thing stands up guys, it's fantastic. I have to say that as far as this style of folder, it's probably one of the sturdiest. It doesn't have the fit and finish of say the case or even the buck 110, and by that, what I mean is there's gapping. You know that's uneven within the scales, however, it is frickin minuscule and I'm just trying to find something to to say about it, but I mean really

KA-BAR Hunter folding knife review

 I don't know what it is coated with but it rubbed off as I was making kindling, but it did make the kindling. The handle is a little narrow, so it is not comfortable against the webbing between your thumb and forefinger. It did a nice job on potatoes and some chicken breasts in the kitchen, though I am a little concerned that I may have eaten some of that coating. All in all, a $20 knife whose cosmetics can't make it a day on my place, but is overall a knife made for hard work
