Koss KPH30i – Good sound quality but bad build quality. Koss headphones are slightly overpriced in my country with these costing $50. For the price, they sound good though with the bass being extremely realistic while the treble suffering with even less detail than the DT880.

 I am not knocking the koss headphones they really sound good but I wouldn't "HIGHLY" recommend them in the "MUST have" category. I also don't think Status Audio CB-1s are high end headphones so I would think any headphone Zeos highly recommends should EASILY sound better than the CB-1s.  That said, I did get the sporty white/blue koss headphones which I have to admit are really comfy and look spectacular so I certainly don't regret the purchase I just thought they would be more audiophile grade than they actually were. As a pair of backup headphones i guess they fit the bill and since they are more portable than the CB-1 headphones I guess they will get some ear/air time whenever I have a flight to catch

 I think that's an intangible fringe benefit of amazing speakers and the koss headphones don't do that for me.  Even though the koss headphones are very comfortable to wear, I also can't forget that I'm wearing them and just get lost in the musical world that they project around me so I end up constantly technically analyzing them in my mind instead of just enjoying the music from them and that's why I have rated them only 3 stars. I am not knocking the koss headphones they really sound good but I wouldn't "HIGHLY" recommend them in the "MUST have" category. I compared these Koss headphones to the Status Audio CB-1s that I use daily as I consider them to be great budget headphones for the aspiring budget audiophile. While the Koss headphones have significantly more pronounced bass (especially mid-bass) I didn't find them as natural sounding as the CB-1s. I also found that on some tracks (like UMI-Cheerleader) that had some complexity and a lot of bass that the Koss headphones sounded a bit distorted and the CB-1s while not as bass heavy sounded more natural, accurate and pleasant. I never experience "listener fatigue" using the CB-1 headphones, actually more often than not the opposite is true where I end up using them for way longer than I intended when listening to music

Compared with status audio CB-1s (Z Reviews made me buy these *sigh* #ZeosEffect)

 Today we're going to take a look at the Koss KP-H30i. Did they really call it that? If you've spent any time hanging around audiophile forums and subreddits like I've been in the past couple of months you might have heard of these headphones or you might have heard of these headphones brothers. Do headphones have brothers? You might have heard of them. Koss has another headset called the Porta Pro which apparently a lot of audiophiles really love even though it's relatively cheap headset

 It's around 50 bucks and this from what I can tell is kind of the successor. It's not exactly a replacement for the Porta Pro but it is a successor and it's actually even cheaper than the Porta Pro. And from what I can tell it actually has pretty good sound quality. Now this version of the KPH30i that I've got right here is actually a version from Massdrop which is it just has a unique color scheme

 The only other complaint I can give is yes this cable it's just not the best cable you know the worst part of it it's really thin okay that's one thing but the worst part of it is for me at least is I don't like cables that connect to both speakers I prefer to have the cable just run into one side and then have the other side not be a problem it just makes it so that when you're kind of moving around there's just more tangliness here and and that's kind of a bother. I did a little sound comparison with these versus my Amazon Basics headphones which I think is kind of a good comparison for these the Amazon Basics very cheap headphone surprisingly good but I like these better and mostly you know that comes down to the sound signature that these have I like the open back sound I like having the mids and the highs a little bit more forward the Amazon Basics if you like bass you might actually like the Amazon Basics better but if you just like really detailed mids these I'm telling you right now these are pretty good. I did also check just to make sure I connected it to my PlayStation via just plugging into the DualShock controller and right away the PlayStation picked up that there was a microphone on here switched over to that all my audio and microphone and stuff was being handled by this budget headset and so that's that's great that's great that's what I'm looking for. All right so I have to score these and you can probably guess by now I'm I like these quite a bit I'm gonna go ahead and score these five stars out of five now you know my one complaint my one kind of hang up is this cable I wish this cable was a little bit better but it's not going to be enough for me to not give these five out of five and a lot of that comes down to the price right these are under 30 bucks and even cheaper if you buy them on mass drop like I did although if you get them on mass drop you are limited to the hipster colors so if that's not your thing just go ahead and pick them up on Amazon very cheap as is

 These remind me a lot of my grado headphones not quite the exact same sound signature but but pretty similar in that the mids and the highs and the audio are very forward and very elevated and if that's what you like I tend to love that sound. If that's what you like you're gonna like these headphones they're they're really good. Now the bass as you might expect in a small headphone like this the bass is not extreme but it is actually surprisingly there in decent amounts so the the bass is not emphasized at all. It's probably the least emphasized part of the audio but in songs where there is pretty heavy bass it totally comes through in these and it's fairly sharp it doesn't distort it sounds great

I usually go for big cans, but that's a big no with sweat and moving and stuff.

I asked him a ton of "strange" questions. First about form factor. He initially wanted no wires at all, but he turned out to be ok with them going in the back of his neck.

I asked what his phone was (he didn't understand why but Apt-x is kind of a big deal when you don't have loads of battery life).

Other random questions like recharge time, music style, microphone needs, specialized for gym or general usage, etc.

When I got a short list, I asked about the shape of his ears.

His budget was 60 canadian pesos. I decided whatever was available in this range was unworthy and I bought him a nice set of Jaybird Tarah Pro. APT-X HD, very good IEM retention system, rugged wires, quick charge and waterproof for unexpected rain while doing miles of bike or just sweat protection.

At first he didn't seem too exited, but after 2 months of getting used to the weird IEM attachment, he told me they are way better than he expected, especially in things he didn't even think he would need. He told me sound quality is more than fine for "everyday usage", battery last super long and they charge quickly, and they never fell once.

Much better than the airpods he was looking at.

TL;DR: most people only consider look, sound and battery life, but IMO, form factor and other features are often overlooked and at least as important as the rest.

Oh hey, since I've stumbled on this sub via r/all:

I'm a voice actor, so far have been using my old MDR 1000X's (with a cable, my PC doesn't have bluetooth). They are unfortunately triggering a tic when they're on my head (i shake it every couple seconds), and running in them is *definitely* impossible.

So, within an arbitrary price range of, say, 250€ - any suggestions?

Luckily my lil bro listens to my recommendations and bought a pair of Shure SRH1540 and Beyerdynamic DT 1770 Pro Headphones; along with a pair of ADAM Audio T7V studio monitors for his studio setup.

Yeah, I had a friend message me on instagram after I had shared a story of some new headphones. Said he wished he had something better to listen to than apple earbuds but didn't know what to get.

I'm going to send him my Audio-Technica ATH-M20X's. Not stellar cans but a lot better than cheap earbuds. He's pretty excited so it feels good.

Did this for family members, got them really good bt headphones that can also use the wire if you didn't want or have them charged. A few months later they are using wish airpod knock offs just because they look like airpods. They sound like music playing through a tube and they do not seal in your ear at all.

i sold him my (barely) used he-400i.  i love those cans but i recently bought the sundara and he really needed a nice set of music cans.  plus i tossed in my loxjie p20 cuz i got a thx 789 now.  all in all i love paying it forward with audio.

 When they arrived, I plugged them into my FiiO K3 Type-C USB DAC Headphone Amp. They sounded a tad bit anemic at first but pleasant nonetheless. I engaged the gain and bass switches on the K3 and the headphones sprang to life. They actually sound pretty decent considering the low price
