 It is very, very, very long, and terminates to three and a half mil with a screw on a quarter inch. I mean, this is a long, long, long, long, long, long, long cable, and it just clicks right in. Then there's the sound. So these are not bad sounding, and I don't want to say that a headphone is specifically good or bad sounding, and I guess I did to an extent with the SHP9500s and the Fidilio X2s

 They don't have a lot of extension, so you do have bass, but not much sub-bass. But it is relatively punchy, there is some impact, it's not bad, but it is very boring. And there are analytical headphones that are great, that have just very, very neutral response, that are not super fun, but are still great. These aren't fun and they're not particularly great

 And the issue isn't that they're bad in a specific category, it's that there's nowhere specifically where these stand out. There's nothing particularly about these that they do better than anything else. There's nothing special about them, that's the problem. Usually there's something that a headphone has that makes it stand out

 These do have a bit of grain, not like Philips grain, it's not as intense as that. Soundstage is okay, treble is definitely there, mids are definitely there, everything's there. They don't have a lot of extension, so you do have bass, but not much sub-bass. But it is relatively punchy, there is some impact, it's not bad, but it is very boring

 Then there's the sound. So these are not bad sounding, and I don't want to say that a headphone is specifically good or bad sounding, and I guess I did to an extent with the SHP9500s and the Fidilio X2s.  AKG k7xx - These were honestly a big letdown. To start with the build is really bad, super cheap feeling plastic and a suspension system with thin elastic bands that look like they could break at any moment.

I did however find that the intense V shape gave the overall sound a very clinical, sterile and compressed sound to music that I just didn't vibe with in the end and I ended up returning them. They were pretty good for gaming but overall I prefer the 58x for their perfect imaging and richer sound. AKG k7xx - These were honestly a big letdown. I tried these with the sennheiser gsx 1000 and they weren’t loud enough. From what I’ve heard the amp I was using is used more for sound quality but it still just wasn’t loud enough with the amp. The sound was amazing and the sound stage was incredible but I wish I could hear more.

Great if you have a good amp

 It's not as wide as the K702s, but it sounds more realistic and more intimate, making me prefer them over the K702s. Because of this, instrument placement is also easier with the K7Xs. The highs on these headphones are less fatiguing than the K702s. The highs are crisp, clean, and along with the illustrious midrange really bring out how horrible modern music is mastered and recorded

The 3 decibel bass boost, which is believed by many to be because of the new pads, brings new life to lower registered voices and to the bass line of many songs

Massdrop X AKG K7XX Headphones Quick Review/K702 ...

I have a pretty big head for reference (when using the AKG K7xx, even though the elastics and plastic brackets broke, the fit no different - my head essentially stretches the headphone to the max). My other issue is I have pretty bad TMJ in both jaws so headphones with notable clamping force causes a lot of ache and pain. I was looking into the Sennheiser HD6xx from Drop but I actually tried on a pair of HD650's several years back and recall the clamping force to be unbearable after 10-15 minutes for my jaw. For music, my library is pretty expanse covering hip-hop, edm, j-rock, j-pop, orchestral, etc

Overall sound quality is good and they are very comfortable. I wear them for hours at a time. My biggest complaint is that they squeak a lot when moved or adjusted. I've owned several other AKG headphones that were completely silent

 At the $200 mark you're getting an iconic design and now that the review period is done and they're being shipped back, I basically know exactly what I want for Christmas this year. Having I put them up against some solid performers for my line up and for private listening, I would now grab these over any of my other current cans. Before I close out, I wanted to stress some observations. I would not be looking at these if you plan to use them on a bus or a plane

 For the next couple years, my paycheck basically became Audio Gear. Before I knew it, I had recreated their demo area in my tiny room in the barracks. The room had egg cartons on the walls, pillows taped to the doors and windows, a single chair and a folding bed off to the side. The main goal was perfect soundstage, and it sounded awesome

 By achieving it, I learned what made great sounding audio great. Building a dedicated studio like that can become expensive and it's not very portable. Good headphones are very portable and they don't necessarily need to be expensive. Headphones come in two basic types, open and closed

 I can't remember their specific soundstage, range or profile, but I can remember that they were the best sounding anything I'd ever heard. When I joined the military and moved out, I stumbled into the local audio shop which was financially a gigantic mistake. For the next couple years, my paycheck basically became Audio Gear. Before I knew it, I had recreated their demo area in my tiny room in the barracks
