trying to find  a mixer to perform live with and also record all my channels in the studio  at the same time(10-12 channel interface). I'd prefer physical eq's which knocks the zoom l12's out. I'm happy to spend the money but would prefer the cheapest solution possible. if anybody has any l-12 alternatives that would be great

10-12 channel mixer with simultaneous multitrack recording for live performance+studio

I'm new here so my apologies if this gets asked a lot. There's a buying guide in the Wiki off the sidebar but the links aren't active.  

I'm a drummer for a new project using backing tracks &amp; click and have been tasked to look into adjustable monitors for the rest of the band. Everyone has their own basic IEMs already like SE215's and KZ's, but the rest of the band would prefer to have flexibility from using the mix of the monitor feed I use to play at the kit.  A wired solution would be fine but the option to expand to wireless would be nice.  We're all in our 40s with outside careers so we don't have to go bottom of the barrel but doing this cost-effectively would be nice.  

I've looked around and it looks like there are solutions using iPhones as the headphone amp but from what I've learned in the posts here that can be a nightmare at a venue where every other phone is using those frequencies.  

And it's only 4 players but probably need 8 inputs between the click, backing tracks, and the different instruments we'd like to monitor.

I tried out the Macke Master Fader app, and it looks nice. But I also like the Behringer's app.

Most important things for me are the preamps and effects.

Mackie DL16S VS Behringer XR18

TLDR: looking for advice on my intended setup, with any suggestions or corrections anyone would like to offer



A church I used to volunteer at years ago is trying to downsize and sell some of their old gear. They've had access to climate-controlled storage and have been very careful with the equipment so it's all in mint condition, fully functional.

One piece in particular they've been unsuccessful in getting rid of is an Allen &amp; Heath GL3000 mixer they're willing to sell me for $900 CAD.

I'm seriously considering the purchase, I just wanted to run this by you guys first. As the mixer is fully analog, I need AD/DA and some kind of interface to get said AD/DA in and out of my DAW.

My primary goal is to simply use the mixer as an audio interface with onboard EQ (and I have a few pieces of rackmount to go with it - Alesis Microverb, 3630, Dbx 160A, and a patchbay).


So far, my intended gear list includes two Ferrofish Pulse 16s (they the only affordable option I've been able to find that offer me the I/O I need to take full advantage of the mixer) as well as an RME Digiface to get the 32 channels in and out of my mixer.

I'm going to keep my current audio interface to use as a monitor controller and to provide talkback ability.


I know I'll have to set the RME as the clock source and ensure both Pulse 16 units are sync'd to it, but is there anything else I'll need to do? I just need to ensure I can get 32 channels of signal into my DAW, and have those same 32 channels able to go back out to the board for further external processing.

Does anybody have any other advice on how to proceed with this setup? Or perhaps some suggestions on gear swaps?

**im looking for a unit that I can run synthesizers through**... 

1. apply a pad (so the guitar pedals see a lower input), 
2. then pan the sound if needed (my analog synths have no pan option), 
3. then send that signal out to guitar pedals with each having their own dedicated output (so that I can process multiple instruments independently &amp; not through the same L/R main out)

some mixers have the pad &amp; panning, but not the individual outs, they all get summed to a single main out.

there a few behringer rack units out, but they lack one feature or another.

**the closest solution I can find is to use 2x (DBX DI4) units, but I'm really looking for a single box solution, doesn't matter if the piece is old or new.**

I'm surprised no one suggested the Midas MR18, then you'll only have to master one interface and it has better mic pres. Then watch tutorials and get to learning.

I am in a few small bands that play out regularly and I sometimes do sound for us. I have a Behringer XAir18 mixer that I use for rehearsals and the gigs that I’ve gotten fairly good at. However, I keep it at the practice site for one band and don’t have access to it at home. I know I am not doing as well as I could with sound, since I am self taught and absolutely missing a lot. I know I am going about things wrong. I would really like to systematically learn basic/intermediate sound engineering both for live work and recording (building a medium home recording space/studio).  I think it would be a creative benefit, and I can just do a better job. That would require working with the mixer regularly. So, I’m thinking about buying a second, potentially better or upgraded one, that I can keep at home and learn on. I will use online resources. My best options (from my research) seem to be the Behringer X 32 rack, the Soundcraft Ui24R, or a second XAir18.   I would love some opinions.

Which Mixer to Buy

I've  been building a venue for small metal shows in the woods. It's been  going well (prior to covid, that is) and I want to upgrade to a digital  console for next season. I'm looking for something with 16 inputs and  the ability to multitrack record the shows using a minimum of additional  hardware.

I'm strongly leaning  towards something that's rack mounted, like a Behringer XR18. I'm  working with limited space for a "sound booth" (just a little spot in  between 3 trees) and we've had issues with rain in the past, so I want  something that's easy to protect from the elements. I'm also already  familiar the Behringer user interface, so that's also a plus.

On  the other hand, I've seen a lot of cheerleading on reddit for the newer  Allen and Heaths, so the Qu-Pac or SB are also on the table if they  really are that much better. I've seen blanket claims that "it just  sounds better" than the Behringer products, but I'm a little skeptical.  When people spend more money, they often have a personal investment in  telling themselves it was worth it. If you're an A&amp;H fan, tell me  what you like about them. I've also heard mixed reviews of their UI, so  feel free to comment on that, too.

I'm  open to other suggestions as well. I've got extensive live sound  experience and a fair amount of studio experience, so I should be able  to learn how to use whatever. I don't need anything dumbed down, but  ease of use is still important. The main thing is I don't want to have  to hook up too many individual pieces. I'd strongly prefer an integral  wireless setup. If there's a unit out there that can do multitrack  recording without the need to hook up an additional laptop, that would  be extra ideal.
