 so unfortunately no gold ring here. The only switch you will find on the body itself is a manual to order switch and if you grab the manual focus ring here then in order mode then it will override the automatic focus. The lens comes with a distance indicator and also a depth of field indicator although it's only 16 F16 they have marked here. I'm happy to say that the manual focus ring works really well and there's no play

 If we stop down to 5.6 you can see that as you would expect in terms of the light fall off, it is much less. There is still some distortion to be corrected, but I mean it is only a click away in the lightroom and I doubt you will be using this lens for architecture photography. So I think this is very fine and in line with my expectations

 It's the lens mount is metal as we know it. Otherwise, I would say this is not exactly top-notch quality. I mean it's okay quality, but you can. You can clearly tell that this is plastic, right? Nygon has spent their energy on the internal things in this lens I'm pretty sure and not so much the externals

 So I got my 85 millimeter used over at Mpp.com and as you can see here, this was my 50 millimeter that came in this box and the 85 millimeter came in this. So they have significantly upgraded me in terms of size of the box. It set me back 334 euros, but that was only because I insisted I wanted one in excellent condition and had I taken one that was in just good condition, That is the classification system

The aperture is a 7-blade design, with rounded blades, so out-of-focus highlights will be fairly circular when the lens is stopped down. Close focus is limited to 2.6 feet, which you may find limiting if you're used to working with wider angle lenses that focus closer. The longer focal length does provide a maximum magnification ratio of 1:8

Getting this kind of optical performance for $500 is a treat, especially when you consider that similar f/1.4 lenses from Zeiss and Nikon can cost more than twice as much. The close focus distance is a little limiting, but if you're a macro shooter you'll be better served by the Micro-Nikkor 105mm, which adds in-lens stabilization to boot. You may be tempted to spend more on an f/1

 It just really depends on how good your camera body is I Had it on my D750 and now on my Z6 and the autofocus is actually still pretty good with this lenses. You know what? it's not super fast, but you know you'd be surprised to find how fast it is once you use it. One of the bad things I didn't like about this lens. It's not really a bad thing, it's just a personal preference but it doesn't have VR so just be aware about that

 Then 85 millimeter 1.8 g lens was announced back in 2011. It does have a 67 millimeter filter thread, the aperture ranges from F 1.8 all the way to F-16 and it does have an AFS motors so when you are focusing it is going to be pretty quiet

8 G I Would definitely recommend just because it's an excellent budget portrait lens. I Know for some people you're looking for the cheapest, but I'm not gonna lie, this is probably one of the best 1.8 G lenses I've spent my money on I've used a mighty Khan F 1.2 lens, I've used the 1

Nikon 85mm 1.8G still good in 2020??

 Good working focal length for portrait use. Nice wide aperture creates some creamy bokeh, not the best but very pleasant. This quick glass allows for sharp shots handheld without a tripod, even in low light. Lens is convenient to use walking around town

 My AF-D 85mm focuses faster? But for portraits this is not a big issue. A bigger issue is the significant edge falloff on this lens when shooting on an FX body. My camera does FX and DX, and edge falloff is non-existent in DX, but in FX it is very visible, so plan to crop heavily or spend considerable time in post processing correcting it.  BOTTOM LINE: A great value for the money

 The performance of this lens is terrific for the price. At about 1/3 the price of the f/1.4 85mm this lens is actually pretty comparable in every way other then the obvious extra stops. So save $1000 and get this lens

A great value for the money

It is a good lens, but not super as some reviews described. Image quality is average among the competitors. Switched to 3rd party brand with better image quality and better price.

Good but not enough

This is a sharp, fast, and versatile lens capable of getting great shots when your subject is either very small, very detailed, or sufficiently far away from the lens to capture enough of it in the frame.  Shooting at f/1.8 is fun - the opportunities for throwing backgrounds into dreamlike bokeh are endless, and the lens stays sharp even as you close the aperture down, though it becomes noticeably softer after about f/11.  The autofocus is quick and quiet - but it is best in at least moderate light and with a detailed, light subject

 So the hood has to stay off - or be mounted forward every time the lens is taken out of its case. However, with even fair lighting this is not at all a problem and focus is split-second and accurate.  Most importantly, in this case, is the lens length itself. As a prime lens, 85mm can seem restrictive compared to 35mm and 50mm lengths and not long enough to really qualify for use in picking out distant details

 Is this awkward in-between place worth the $500 you'll spend on this lens? If you (like me) have a zoom telephoto with 85mm in its range, try it out for a little while at exactly 85mm to find out - and if not a camera store might be a good place to try this. However, with creativity and a little legwork this lens can take many shots that a wide angle lens at first seems the only solution to - often with better and more interesting results. The length is perfect for shooting out of car windows, shooting beautiful portraits, flowers, and in combination with the (typically) very rapid autofocus it's possible to get great shots of fast-moving pets and animals, too. This is not to say that there are no drawbacks to using a long prime- the length is silly for shooting indoors with lots of people and sometimes I miss having the option to zoom in a whole lot further to catch the feathers off of birds flying way off

 With the 18-55mm kit lens, my D3200 typically has very little trouble focusing on its subjects, but this lens periodically makes it very challenging to get a shot off as it hunts around. My immediate reaction is typically to reach for the focus ring and do it myself, but there's a little design problem here: if the hood is mounted backwards, it covers the focus ring entirely as wells as the M/A-M switch that would let me at least maintain the focus I have already. So the hood has to stay off - or be mounted forward every time the lens is taken out of its case. However, with even fair lighting this is not at all a problem and focus is split-second and accurate

Great lens, great performance, cheap feel

 I've been shooting long enough to know it's not camera shake or shotty shooting. I can be perfectly still and grounded and one shot will be tack sharp while another (having not moved) will be a bit fuzzy. My photographer friends I know that have this lens have noticed the same thing and have since switched to using Sigma Art portrait lenses. However for the price on this, it's a pretty decent lens all in all

Love this lens, however I've noticed after a year of use that it spontaneously goes soft once in a while. If it was consistently doing it I'd surmise that it needs to be calibrated again but it is totally random. I've been shooting long enough to know it's not camera shake or shotty shooting. I paired this lens with a D7100 as stated in many reviews on this lens autofocus is a little slow but it works for me try it out I have the f1.8 version
