 I felt a lot of control on the ball. So control, I give it a three. And honestly, to continue on the control, there's this, I don't know the technical term for it, but there's this foam technology they use, and it really helps soften the sound of the ball. So with noise complaints that Pickleball receives, I could see in the future, moving more towards this technology for a lot of paddles to help reduce the noise when hitting the Pickleball

 And then finally, for the aesthetics, this paddle really, Selkirk provides the full experience. And so I give the aesthetics a three because not only is the paddle very cool looking, it's got this sleek design, the cutout, which you see in no other paddle. But again, the presentation, when you receive the paddle, it comes in this really nice leather case, but also they deliver it with like a little metal card, just talking about Selkirk project information and just the uniqueness of how they create the paddles. So that's just a, it's a nice little added experience

 And so I give just the overall aesthetics a three, a three out of three. All right, so getting to the most important question, who is this paddle for? And should you purchase this paddle yourself? So this paddle is for someone who is looking for a little bit more control. You're someone who dinks a lot. You like to be in those dinking bowels

8 inches. I feel like it's more on that lower end of seven and a half. I did feel like a very light paddle. The pricing of this paddle, it is the most expensive coming in at $333

 So if you don't have the edgeguard, you need another way to add weight to the perimeter so that the paddle doesn't twist in your hand so much. So this seems to be Selkirk's way of dealing with getting rid of the edgeguard. Since this is a Selkirk Labs paddle, the price will be $333 and come with the paddle, case, and labs card.  Some of the nicer changes on these labs paddles have been things like octagon handles instead of the cheaper half oval, they have top tier spin that compete with the best of the best, edgeless and won't have edgeguard problems, and they have the open throat design which hate it or love it, it's clearly here to stay. People keep focusing on the hole being about aerodynamics, but the way I look at it is similar to a tennis racket, where the throat is adding a flex point to give the paddle more power. Everyone loves to rag on the hole, but if it works for tennis and padel, I don't see a reason that it wouldn't be beneficial and pickable. Not to mention that both of these paddles have great performance and they also have the hole

Not that you can draw conclusions and say that they perform well because of the hole, but in my opinion, it clearly isn't detracting from the performance. I genuinely wouldn't be surprised if in just a few years almost every single pickleball company is using this type of design, or they at least have a paddle in their lineup that offers it

 So you get a great soft game, far superior spin to the 2.0 line, and a better build design. So if you like to play the soft game, want great spin, and need a very light paddle, the 003 fits the bill perfectly. The only other thick paddle on the market is the Diadem Warrior and for some people that was just too heavy

 I think it lacks power that other paddles do better for singles, but what I found is that my drops and cad and mouse game were so much better with the 003 than something like the power air. So I've really enjoyed using it for singles, but I probably still wouldn't recommend it for most who play singles. I think the additional power for passing shots and keeping your opponent off balance is really helpful. For me, I just found that it worked really well when I needed to do cad and mouse, which was starting to become more of my game than simply just passing shots

 After that I just ended up using my same lead tape setup that I used on the Epic for my Invicta, which just helps make the paddle feel more stable, solid, and adds more power. Because like I mentioned in my 003 review, out of the box, I'm not a giant fan of the paddle, I think it's ok, but it's massively improved with lead tape. I think the additional weight definitely helps with the power and the stability a lot. In that review I also mentioned that I wasn't sure if the 003 was very good for singles, but it's been my primary paddle for singles and doubles since September

 I also hope in the future that all of their Invicta shapes will switch over to this because when I pick up the power air with the original shorter handle, it just feels so much worse to me. When you go to do a two handed backhand, at least for me, it almost hurts because of how I have to grip it and how far out it tapers at the neck. My fingers just feel much more stretched. Having that extra quarter inch or I guess technically a little bit less if you go based on their website, it just feels a little bit better
