Shakespeare Ugly Stik GX2

I think that fly fishing would be pretty common in this situation too and I have some experience with it, but probably not the task to take on right now. I think the ugly stik gx2 combo probably would work for both but again I have flexibility if something a little more expensive would be a significant upgrade. So for line, it seems like for the ultralight a 10 pound braid with a fluorocarbon leader would work well to let me cast out light things a good distance.

A medium rod with a 8-12 lb spinning reel catches a lot here. The Ugly Stik GX2 combo is durable and reasonably priced. Shimano reels are great, though they can get pricey (there are a few cheaper models, like the Sienna). Tackle-wise, I carry size 1/0-2/0 circle hooks, baitholder hooks, spoons, 1/2-2oz egg weights, and 1-2 oz pyramid and bank sinkers for rocky bottoms.

Plus, the GX2 Ugly Stik is damn near bulletproof, has great backbone, and the medium actions are sensitive enough for anyone not entering Tourneys. For a reel, I’m gonna shill for Abu Garcia. I have their Silvermaxx baitcaster and their silvermaxx spinner and both are worth the money. Silky smooth and durable for a good setup, that’s not too hard on the budget (in the grand scheme of angling gear).
