 I think that captures perfectly the impression that the Soundcraft UI 12 is left. Now you might be thinking, wait a minute, this is only a $300 mixer. What did he expect? Well, that's exactly the problem here. What did I expect? If I'm being honest, I expected more

 The concept of browser-based mixing is very interesting at this point, and it offers us new ways to look at how we interact with the audio and how we do our job. The idea of being able to mix from any browser on any device without needing to put software onto each device individually is really smart and one that I was really hopeful for, but in practice, it just doesn't work as well as you would want for what is the only way you have to interact with this mixer. I had this mixer out on four jobs, and I did have backups available on each one of those jobs. And while it did get the job done for each one of those different events, it wasn't without issues

 I had all the channels in use, including the line input, multiple outputs, controlled it hardwired with a Chromebook, and it was absolutely flawless. It was really promising, and I was really excited to continue to get it out on further jobs. On the second gig I took it on, it was another small webcast, and I only used a handful of channels, just three this time, and again hardwired it with the Chromebook, and had no problems, got through the job, but did notice noise beginning to creep in on the channel, as you can see, and that's been intermittent since that job. It started then and has continued

 That's the bottom line. It's a mixer, it's the center of your entire sound system. If you can't trust that, I end up with anxiety going to a gig if this is my only mixer. I'd be so anxious even if this is a brand new one out of the box

This is the second video in the Soundcraft Ui-12 series. After only 4 gigs, the mixer has developed noise on multiple channels and can no longer be trusted. More updates to come as I continue to own this mixer. 2017-05-29

 Every channel has a four band parametric EQ along with a compressor and three effects sends. Each of the mic channels has independent phantom power controls. That means if you've got a condenser mic on channel 5 you can just turn on phantom power for channel 5. Each channel also has either two or four aux sends depending on which model of mixer you have

 This is ideal for just playing some background music off a phone or a tablet or any other media device that will play music. This mixer also allows you to connect an ethernet cable to this mixer straight to a laptop if you want to go hardwired for more permanent installations. Or if you are working in a building that already has been networked you can just hook it up to a network port on the wall and hook your laptop up to another one. Put in your IP address and you can control this remotely without the need for cables running around the room

 So no need for leaving your laptop at a gig. Also this mixer has a line in. This is ideal for just playing some background music off a phone or a tablet or any other media device that will play music. This mixer also allows you to connect an ethernet cable to this mixer straight to a laptop if you want to go hardwired for more permanent installations

 You can get the gain structure set in software up until the master fader. And then when you come out of the mixer you've got these two level controls. This works if you've got some active speakers and you set them to zero. So instead of going over to them if it's not loud enough to turn them up you can just turn it up on the mixer

Digital Mixer - Soundcraft Ui12 Overview - YouTube

 Left, right, auxes, subgroups, effects, line inputs, the playback from this USB built in, and then the eight inputs here. Really handy to have a nice little overview of the whole situation. You can see where phantom power is applied, where phase reverse, mutes, things like that. That's a nice visualization overall and that gives you, there's a look at your mute groups

 Erratic, unpredictable controls are really common with the touchpads and this mixer, with gestures registering accidentally often resulting in momentary loss of control or the browser reloading, generally just things you don't want to have happen by surprise. So we're recording through the UI12 and just going to give a brief look through the features here. So here's the main mixer panel. You can cycle through the other mixer panels, gesture inputs, effects returns, subgroups, and aux masters here

 First, let's talk about what you'll need to get up and running. I'm choosing the most budget-friendly options here, to keep the overall setup cost in line with the mixer's low entry price. So first we need our client. For this, you can use most any device that'll run a HTML5 browser

 Output delay. I know not everybody uses it, but if they could somehow make a version of the UI 12 that was geared more towards live sound use and less towards live music use, I would find that incredibly interesting. I would gladly trade the stompbox features and the feedback suppression for all four auxes working plus headphones and maybe output delay and a test tone generator. A mixer like that in this size package would be really interesting, and it'd just be really nice to have a mixer that felt like it was designed for live sound people
