This highly customizable device does a stellar job of picking up all the desired frequencies with plenty of time to allow the driver to slow down. Not only does it excel in the range department, but its accuracy is also an attribute to write home about &mdash; as long as you understand the optimal settings for your primary driving routes. Uniden gives its users fine-tune control over band sensitivity to help with false alerts. From the setup to updates to setting adjustments, the R3 is all around very user-friendly, especially once you become familiar with the controls. The GPS location lockouts are recorded by a simple double-tap of the mute button, located just below the screen, and remain recorded until you delete them. The audible alerts are easy to hear, and the screen is easy to read. 
While the GPS location lockouts are easy to perform and plentiful, the R3 does not have as much storage as some of its competitors, even within the Uniden brand. This doesn't affect its daily performance but may inhibit the use of future memory-heavy firmware updates. Unfortunately, it also does not pick up modulating frequencies as well as some of the more expensive models and therefore lacks in its MultaRadar detection. Another bone we have to pick with the otherwise stellar R3 is the BSM filtering. When driving next to modern cars equipped with blind-spot monitoring, the K-band alert is often triggered. Fine-tuning the K-band sensitivity helps with this a little but does not prevent all BSM-related false alerts. Lastly, the R3 does not have directional arrows. This is not a make-or-break feature, but we truly appreciate knowing where the threat is coming from. All this aside, with this device you can feel confident that you're getting the most important features of an advanced radar detector with stellar range and comparable accuracy for a fraction of the cost.

 I am so excited to show you this brand new radar detector I just picked up. This one I have here is the UNIDEN R3. This detector came out in middle of 2017, and it quickly became the detector to get if you're looking for a high-end, long-range radar detector. Now this R3 model retailed for $400

BEST Performing Radar Detector You Need To Get - UNIDEN R3

  Driving through the small/tiny towns of NC and SC to get to the beaches this detector earns its keep. 2 hidden KA speed traps were easily detected (one was a black on black charger with black rims, under a tree, in a church parking lot was one of them) and 2 hits on laser at the laser guns typical max range (typically a visual must be made at like 1000 ft or less I believe.). The laser hit was at max range, I couldn't even see the police vehicle when I was being lidar'd so I'm sure he/she couldn't make out what type of vehicle I was driving either

Doesn't pick up any other BSM but mine!

 Every time I turn on the car, it goes through its testing procedures and it works a hundred percent well. It was a lot easier than I anticipated the hide the wires. It was a lot easier to tap into the fuse box, which is awesome. Everything just went together seamlessly

 Back up top. All right, cool. So let's talk about some things that are kind of bumped into, you know, throughout the day, installing this into my civic. So number one, it looks dead sexy

 Number one, it had the longest range almost of any other radar detector. It outperformed the, all the high-end Escort, like the Max 360 and other models. And I thought that was amazing, considering this was like less than half the price of those. So the range was definitely a huge plus for me

 I feel great having it. And you know, whether I'm in a fast car or I'm in a slow car, I think, you know, there's always going to be cops and, you know, it's just always going to be beneficial to have in your car. I'd also like to note that I have had zero technical issues with this device. It has been super ultra reliable

Uniden R3 1 Year Ownership Review - WHY Everyone NEEDS a Radar Detector!

 The R3 is the most sensitive detector that I've ever laid eyes on. Easily beats my 9500ix and even bested my buddy's Valentine V1. But with that sensitivity comes a price.

  The Bad and the Ugly. In its stock factory settings, this unit falses constantly on K band in city/mixed driving. It's about as bad as a V1 (I have a good friend who owns one and it reminds me of a V1). You will utilize the automute/GPS function constantly to lockout annoying false alarms around town until you have driven most of your daily routes

 Totally not worth it when matched up against the R-7 or V1 Gen2.  But back to the R-3 because for the money it is still an insanely good deal for the price and still has crazy good range. Yes it doesn’t have the range of the new big three or arrows like them, but it will still perform like a champ when you need it to do so and is still the best single antenna detector in my opinion.

 I’ve had to replace suction mounts and the power cord because as mentioned in my initial review, they aren’t as sturdy as my old Escort 9500ix. Not a deal breaker but Uniden can do better.  Second, the BSM filtering has gotten better with the K-Block feature in the latest firmware. With that said it’s still not as quiet as an Escort detector but completely good enough for interstate driving

Great, but not without some flaws.

 There are some radar detectors from the competition that are half the price, and that's fine, but we would argue that those units are also half the radar detector when compared to the unit in R3. Here we will take a couple of minutes to hit the high points of the R3.  It's a radar detector that enthusiasts have trusted for a long time, so it's a good choice if you're looking to purchase your first one. The R3 will alert you to X, K, and Ka radar bands and laser guns, and will show the frequency when a particular radar band is detected. The corresponding signal strength indicator moves from green to yellow, then red depending on how close you are to the threat. Activate the All Threat feature via the Settings menu, and the R3 will simultaneously display up to four radar bands if there are multiple threats in the area

and maybe still am). You'll also need to mount the device properly, i.e. as high up on your windshield as possible

 There is a noticeable difference between mounting it low on the windshield and higher up near the rear view mirror. If you want to mount it higher up (recommended), the "discreet" double-suction cup that is provided is nearly useless. Its grip is not strong at all and more importantly the vibrations from your vehicle will almost assuredly knock the device off the glass. Potentially my biggest gripe though is with the power cord

 Unfortunately, the max speed alert trumps an actual detection alert, as I recently experienced while passing a cop (detection alert did not start until I dropped below my max speed). Thankfully the cop cut me a break, but this should have been avoided had the alerts been prioritized in a more logical order. Again, this is a fine device but you'll need to put in some effort to get your money's worth.

 Hey guys, welcome back to Consumer Influence, coming at you from my Weiss van, just got done dropping off a friend of mine at O'Hare Airport in Chicago, thought I would go ahead and take this time to do a review on the new UNIDEN R3 radar detector. I've had this radar detector now for about, oh, two months I would say. I was on one of the pre-order lists to get the product before the general public and heard lots of great things. I was very picky on what I was going to go with, because you know, they're expensive

 You know, you look at what the Escort Max 360 is going for, and it's still what the passport brings in, or you know, or other ones. And I didn't want to go down the road of buying a $100 radar detector. I've been there, done that, and that's not where I wanted to go. But as always, like all of us, we want to get the most bang for our buck

 If you are looking for a radar detector that is extremely sensitive, that will pick up the police from a long distance and not have the false alerts, this is the radar detector that you're going to want. I've put it against my dad's passport, he's got an escort passport, now that was the king dog of distance, well I think this is the new sheriff in town because this is definitely beating out the escort passport.
