CR’s take: Like many Wolf products the Wolf Gourmet WGSM100S mixer is pricey. But if you have a Wolf kitchen suite and are into the matchy-matchy thing, you can add one more red knob and proudly display this mixer on your counter. At 18 inches, it’s one of the taller stand mixers in our ratings, but you don’t have to leave extra clearance under your upper cabinets because it has a bowl-lift feature rather than a head that tilts back. It comes with a flat beater, dough hook, and whisk and earns Excellent ratings on the three tasks you buy a mixer for—whipping, kneading, and mixing. Our testers found no discernible flaws with this model.

Great Mixer but...

 KitchenAid offers a variety of accessories.  Wattage, the KtichenAid Pro 500 series is around $800 with 325 watts while the Wolf Gourmet mixer is just under $1k but packs a whopping 500 watts of power.  I especially like the lift feature, it’s quite yet powerful and runs very smoothly. It’s aesthetically stunning that I can have the on the countertop all the time, no need to hid in a cabinet

 The set comes with the flat beater, dough hook, whisk and splash guard (which I had to pay extra for on the KitchenAid).  As for accessories, the only accessory available is the Food Grinder Attachment which is around $150. I was hoping for a pasta attachment, perhaps they will offer one some day. I’d also like to see about getting an extra bowl but don’t see they offer that either

 This Wolf mixer, by contrast, will outlive me.  Disadvantages: (1) high price, (2) fewer attachments available than a KitchenAid. There's only an optional food grinder, as far as I can find. I'd really like a powered pasta maker attachment like my KitchenAid, or even better an adapter that would fit my KA attachments onto the Wolf would be brilliant; (3) it's heavy enough that you'll be happier if you can leave it in one spot; (4) the tool attachment takes some getting used to; (5) the bowl itself is not intended for the dishwasher (but it's simple to handwash)

 You'd have to spend 3-5 times as much on a bakery-grade Hobart to get better performance or more capacity.  I bought this beast to replace a 40-year-old Kitchen Aid that finally gave up the ghost after years of light duty when I asked it to mix stiffer doughs. This Wolf mixer, by contrast, will outlive me.  Disadvantages: (1) high price, (2) fewer attachments available than a KitchenAid

 The soft-edge scrape-the-side tool isn't needed with this mixer. This mixer just powers through, and everything comes together. The bread hook works perfectly and my breads and bagels and such have great texture. I hardly ever need to stop and scrape the side of the mixing bowl the way I did with the old KA

 If you want something more modern, luxurious and ultra powerful, the Wolf would be perfect for you.

 The Wolf mixer is sleek, modern, high-end and extremely powerful. Both mixers weigh a ton. I thought for sure the KitchenAid was the heaviest mixer out there, then I tried to lift the Wolf. Pretty sure it weighs more

 So, factor that in to your buying decision, again, my Kitchenaid Bowl Lift, while only 5 qts, most definitely handled EVERYTHING that I threw at it with ease. This one, is all of that plus more power and it's prettier, IMO.  Unlike Kitchenaid, there are no color choices with this mixer, which is fine with me. The one caveat is there is only 1 attachment available so far, outside of the 3 that come with it

75" H, it may be too tall for some cabinets. Measure first because while it fit underneath my 18.25" cabinetry, without issue, there was hardly ANY room left.  While you will pay more money for this mixer, what you receive is the aesthetic "IT" factor that's also capable and ready to take on ANYTHING

Beauty and the Beast

 I had to stand there holding the mixer to prevent it from toppling over, but it didn't overheat and shut off with the more pliable brioche dough.  Beyond the constant scraping, the inability to manage stiff doughs, and the violent rocking of the machine with the brioche dough, the speed dial goes too fast too quickly. Speed setting 2 to 3 is the equivalent, by my eye, to the Kitchen Aid's 5. The highest setting on the Wolf, also did not seem significantly faster than the KitchenAid

 The instructions say to unplug when you change heads as not to be injured. That seemed excessive at first however I do unplug now when I change heads as I feel its that powerful.  I know its expensive but "buy the best and only cry once"
