Room Correction Question

A miniDSP without a mic is essentially a toy unless you are very experienced in setting up venues by ear. You really need both a way to measure your system, and a way to use those measurements to make a change. I have a Umik 1 and have used it several times with great success. Pairing the mic with roomeqwizard allowed me to measure my room, and make the appropriate adjustments on my 31 band analog eqs.

USB cable defective on receipt. No calibration file available from miniDSP website

For a $116 mic, the USB cable is truly awful. I bet I could get a bettter cable from the dollar store. The serial # on the mic is not recognized on their website, and REW doesn't work without it. Available from miniDSP for $79. What!? Contacted the seller and no response. Returning. Accuracy unknown...

Have you tried using "audiophile" grade socks instead of the smartwool ones. :)

Get a calibrated microphone if you don't already have one (like a UMIK-1). Being able to measure the actual response will let you get the most out of the tweaking.

Does better than expected!!!!

I bought an Emotiva XMC-1 Processor about 7 months ago. Amongst that I have an svs ultra tower 7.1 surround system and an svspb4000 sub. Nice setup or so I thought. The mic that came with the from emotiva would give too many varying results and too many disappointing playback results especially way ...

Then, of course, you output to your stereo and you can A/B test, do prolonged comparisons, whatever. If you decide against actually buying DIRAC, I suspect you'd have no problem selling a lightly used UMIK-1 on usaudiomart or ebay for 90% of the original purchase price.
