Special "CUSTOM" 
It can be said that "CUSTOM" is the glory name. Moderate thickness of axis, length, nib, and the sight that shaved extra decoration. The attitude to pursue supreme writing intently - this is the "CUSTOM". However this "CUSTOM 823" have very interesting sucking system. The system is "Plunger system". 

Enjoyable filling mechanism 
This system use nature of "vacuum". You can enjoy mechanism through skeleton body. Turn the knob and pull stick... pull, pull. Let's push the knob. The ink is filling in a moment ! And when you write, gently loosen the knob (for flowing ink to nib). Ink is dancing in the skeleton axis. Interesting. Can't forget the scene if you look once. Certainly you can't wait out of ink. So, please write, write, write ! But don't forget. This is "CUSTOM". 

Why Plunger system ? 
Please remember the general attitude of "CUSTOM". Usefulness for writing. "Plunger system" can pump up more ink (1.5ml). This is the most quantity among regular line. Around 1935 - using rotary system was not popular. The proposition was "prevent ink from leaking and store more quantity". Plunger system have both points. Now, cartridge and converter system become popular. But not be sepia color. 

nib 
Nib is 14K (#15), large size. It's majestic and arched shape is elegant. But of course, essence is writing touch. The moderate hardness can endure long time writing. And moderate softness tell characteristic repulsion. Good balance. 
Ink - This system is peculiar, so strongly recommend to use INK-70 (PILOT products). This bottle have ink reservoir. 
Equipped accessories - Of course, special box only. Cartridge ? Converter ? What is it ?

 and a lot of that's because of the filling mechanism. It's got some metal components even though the pen is mostly resin and it's going to be similar in weight. If you're familiar with like the Lobby Mm or the Pilot vanishing Point, it's going to be right in that ring, so the pen is very evenly balanced. It's got the rod inside for the vacuum filler, which kind of distributes the weight throughout the whole body of the ten, and the cap is not as significant of weight as the body of the pen, so that means that it's gonna feel pretty good in your hand whether you have it posted or unposted

 I Think a lot of people consider it to be a workhorse pen. We've even seen celebrities like Neil Gaiman are fans of using this pen on a regular basis and for good reason. I'm going to cover all the aspects of this pen in this video and I think this one kind of falls into the category of actually attainable and pretty affordable Holy Grail pen territory So let's explore why that is here in the U.s

 This design is known as the plunger or vacuum filler, while Visconti refers to their design as the double reservoir power filler, it's the same thing here. You screw the filling knob which opens the seal at this section, allowing ink to flow from the barrel to the feet.  So pricing on the Pilot Heritage or Pilot Custom 8:23 is a little tricky and and it's the same problem I have with a lot of the Japanese brands, which is you can get them from Japanese sellers at much less than you can get them for here in the US. So Pilot USA brings them in and they support the warranty and all of that kind of stuff. And here in the U.s

Pilot Custom 823 Review

The Lamy 2000 is one of the most popular gold-nib FP on the market today, and it's been so for decades. Yet I'd argue that it's quite overrated and not the best choice for someone getting their first gold-nib. Before you downvote me, please hear me out.

**Reason 1: The gold nib effectively writes like a steel nib since it's hooded; there's no room to flex or be noticeably soft.**

The big benefit to a modern gold-nib pen is the softness, the semi-flex that a gold nib offers over steel. The Lamy 2000's gold nib has neither of these properties due to its tiny size end hooded nib design. Hooded nibs were designed specifically to *reduce* flex and thus allow faster writing. So a hooded nib on  gold is rather counterproductive to using gold. If the Lamy 2000 used a steel nib instead, it would write the same. 

If this is your first gold nib pen, you've not really experienced a what a gold nib is capable of.

**Reason 2: The air seal is poor; the ink darkens as the water content dries out.** 

The inner cap in the Lamy 2000 just doesn't seal well. I think it has to do with the striated texture of the grip that makes a proper air seal impossible. If you fill it with a light-colored ink, it will noticeably darken over the course of weeks and eventually dry out. Ink with lower water content also doesn't flow well.

This is only a problem if you only use the pen occasionally. If you can empty it within a few weeks, then it's not a problem.

**Reason 3: It's relatively difficult to disassemble and clean.**

In order to properly deep clean a piston-filler, you need to clean out the piston and barrel. This means removing the piston assembly. On most modern piston-fillers like the TWSBI 580 or Pilot CH92, this process is pretty easy if you have the right tool. On a Lamy 2000, it's a real operation. 

Of course, if you're not switching inks or just don't care too much if you pens are squeaky clean, then this is also not an issue.

* Pilot Custom Heritage 74 or 92
* Platinum #3776 Century
* Sailor 1911 or Pro Gear
* Pelikan M400 series (a bit more expensive)

The Pilot CH 92 is the closest competitor. It's also a gold nib, piston-filling pen that can be purchased at around USD 160. I have both it and the Lamy 2000, and I think the 92 is the better pen in most ways. In fact, the Lamy 2000's only advantage is its iconic reputation.
