Platinum Prefounte

I'm convinced Platinum Prefounte is \_the\_best starter pen out there. The writing experience is second to none, the feed is exceptionally reliable, the pen doesn't dry out forever.

If you just want to try the FP life, I'd suggest a Platinum Prefounte. Will only set you back $11, looks pretty good and writes well (same nib as Preppy in a more grown-up body). Once you know you like FPs then you can look at the pens at the next level or two up.

The Platinum Prefounte and Plaisir only have a fine nib I think, which should still be alright if you use drier ink. Or, if you want to switch bodies later on and still use the extra fine nib, the three pens I just listed have exchangeable nibs and feeds so you can pull an extra fine nib out of a preppy and switch it into a prefounte or plaisir.

They all take their own brand of cartridges, and can also use converters for bottled ink. If you absolutely do not want to spend a lot of money and still get a great pen, the Platinum Preppy is cheap as heck.

The Prefounte feels like it lives in the price space the Lamy Safari ought to be in. The whole entry level series of pens for Platinum is really well thought out.
