At $170 vs. $500, the 58x is not only the much better per-dollar value, but I do not find that the listener gains anything sound-wise with the 660s. I suspect any claims of the 660s having superior sound are due to slight differences in its stock tuning rather than driver capabilities. The only thing the definitively 660s improves on in my opinion is build quality, which may very well prove important if you plan on keeping these headphones for 10+ years.

The Sennheiser HD 660 S are good open-back critical listening headphones. They have a good audio reproduction and are comfortable enough for long listening sessions. However, they are quite a bit tighter than other Sennheiser headphones we've tested, like the Sennheiser HD 650

I currently own a pair of HD 660s (£275), previously paired with Modi/Magni stack (sold). I'm looking for headphones that firstly have punchier bass (sorry for terminology) and a better soundstage for Valorant (competitive fps). I love all the extra sounds I can hear over my last setup (Astro A40s) but I'm missing the bass and haven't found the difference to be worth the cost, personally.

Around 2 years ago I started getting interested in “audiophile” headphones. For my first purchase, I wanted to go with a pair of open back headphones, as I loved the wide sound stage they gave compared to closed backs, so I purchased a pair of Sennheiser HD 660s. I used them for around a week but eventually returned them because I didn’t feel like they were worth the £429 price tag, and I wasn’t necessarily impressed by the sound. Unbeknownst to me, I was a little lacking in the knowledge department of high end headphones.
