 key factors affecting price. The nibs just feel different. I use steel nibs still (Lamy Al Star and Kaweco Sport), but they don’t quite compre to the Lamy 2000 or a vintage Parker Duofold. The latter two pens are heavier, use piston filling and button filling mechanisms, have gold nibs, and feel more carefully engineered

All the pens I have are below $30 and they all write very well. I would like to understand what is the difference between an expensive pen like Sailor or lamy 2000 and pilot metropolitan or twsbi swipe? I am not able to think of any difference in mechanics. So what is the differentiating factor?

What is the difference between an expensive and a $20 pen?

4 - A nice looking acrylic doesn't mean you should be charging $180 for a pen without a clip.  I know, it is small batch, handmade but still, would it kill you to put a nice clip on it? Birmingham Pens finally figured it out, let's hope it trickles down.

Alright, I’ve really enjoyed reading these threads and figured I’d kick one off for this fresh, new year.

#1: Vintage pens are underrated here and really deserve more love. 

#2: Vintage pens are the pinnacle of fountain pen FOMO.

#3: (More of a popular opinion, but I’m saying it anyways.) Sailors are really absurd with their “special editions.” Let’s throw some randomly colored parts together and call it a fabulous new finish.

#4: Parker has run themselves into the ground.

#5: Modern “demonstrators” with CC filler types have lost the entire idea of a fountain pen demonstrator.

#6: Pens should go back to having reversible grinds.

#7: Pelikan steel nibs (ie. M200, not Twist) are better than their gold nibs.

These are my thoughts, and they are not meant to offend anyone who disagrees with them. 
With that said, what’s your unpopular pen opinion?

Unpopular Fountain Pen Opinions for 2022

  I don’t mean to detest this pen because I want to love it, but when comparing it to the Parker Urban, it is not worth 10 times the price...I don’t believe it’s a 10 times better writing experience compared to the Urban

The Duofold just increased Parker’s Urban value tenfold!

I got the Blue Chevron version of this pen and it is quite beautiful (needless to say, at this price point you buy the pen more for its looks than for its nib).  First - the pen is big and heavy overall, but the cap is what makes the statement (it is BIG). Without it, the size of the pen is "normal", although still on the hefty side, which I like.  Very cool!  Other than writing, fit in the hand is most important to me, and here the Big Red really excels. The Big Red’s grip section is stellar, contouring down to a moderate flare at the end. Brilliant! For comparison, the flare at the end of the grip section on my Sailor Realo 1911 and Pelikan Souverän M805 are less pronounced, and my Aurora Optima is more pronounced.  As I said, I'm not actually seeing Mom with this particular number sixty five. Whether that again that might relate to the age of the pen being 1965 I am not too sure and again it will be interested to find out if anybody knows knows what that number actually means if we open the pen up here again. There's some slight discrepancies on this particular pen because although I date it to 1964, the earlier Park is 65 at sorry Park is seventy five models had a metal thread to the bottom to the bottom of this section here and as you can see, this particular one has a plastic thread which makes this particular pen slightly later than maybe. Why I Actually, maybe think from 1964 as I say the early ones had a metal a metal thread

 As it says there Park is 75 your key to better writing which in effect relates to this little object here which we'll show in a moment. And inside what you've got is the filling instructions and how to fill the pen, etc. You've got the guarantee. And as I say this little object which we'll show in a moment inside the case, What you'll see there you've got this beautiful sterling silver Parker Sir 75 fountain pen which comes in this gorgeous crosshatch grid pattern or as some people call it the sisal pattern

 and again, if we turn it round you'll notice this particular pen has the the M that were actually we mentioned earlier whereas the other pen has this has this number sixty five which is a little bit confusing. so sorry. I've actually mismatched them. So as I say this is a lighter version here them as with the new Utley sorry the earlier version on this particular one that we actually showed you the the hallmarks to the to the barrel

 And but as I say these particular ones are the flat ones which indicate that it's one of the earlier models. the pattern of the pen if we can actually bring it quite close up for you as you can see it comes in this well this grid pattern in sterling silver and I believe on the earlier models the black that you can actually see here was actually enameled to make the crosshatch more pronounced and then the later pens are believed the the black lines were more down to the patina if you like of the aging silver which highlighted the the grid pattern. If you if you can see to the top there it's got this lovely long standard Parker clips of the top there. Okay now let's show you the the imprints here
