Parker IM

Parker (like Waterman, Sheaffer and Cross) is essentially a company in managed decline, extracting the remaining value from the brand without significant investment in R&D. The Duofolds are still great pens - but very traditional, and aimed largely at the gift/presentation market. The Vector is a solid, cheap, workaday pen. The IM, Jotter, and all the other slightly differently decorated and sized Vectors are just vectors at different price points.

I was recently bitten by the fountain pen bug and purchased this Parker as an inexpensive every day use pen. It has a nice, masculine appearance, and is appropriately substantial feeling in the hand. I'm going into DR and have no second thoughts. BUT if I did do something else, I would go into primary care IM or FM. The training is shorter, the pay is great for the number of hours you work, and outpatients are IMO usually pleasant.

The pen on its own is excellent. It writes very well, the nib performs equally well on ALL types of paper (which is quite rare). This pen looks nice, although it does not come with a gift box. After using it for only about one week, a small chip appeared in the barrel. Pen size feels good but the cone at the tip of the pen spins in either direction endlessly. Also twist mechanism slowly opens or closes but itself while using it or sitting in pocket. Parker IM. Pen feels good in the hand for weight and size but clip feels a little flimsy and is kind of sharp underneath, damaging pan pocket edges.

I love the broad with of this pen because I use it primarily for signatures. The ink does stop daily and there is need to force feed the ink supply. **Parker IM**. The Parker IM feels better than the Jotter in the hand, thanks to it more substantial body. Jotters are seriously and uncomfortably thin near the tip, which I didn't expect even though I don't have big paws. The clicker is strong and bit less annoying than that of the Jotter (loud and high pitched, that's terrible).

As an avid fountain pen user (I've got 50+ pens), I'm always on the lookout for a good pen value. This pen is pretty inexpensive, but it is not worth the money.
